Hi List: In researching one of my husband's family lines, I find two Coker ladies. It was a surprise and I have no idea where they belong in our tree. 1. Nettie Caroline Coker m: David Henry Isham. David was b: in Comanche Co., TX and they probably married there. They had two sons: R.C., b: 1911 in Comanche, Comanche Co., TX and Edward who was younger. 2. Lona D. Coker m: Daniel Franklin Roberson. Dan b: 1875, Comanche Co., TX and died there in 1943. His second wife was Ella Dorcas Deen so Lona D. may have died long before Dan. I do not have the names of any of their children. Neither of these is my husband's direct line but are just loose ends I'd like to learn about. Any help appreciated. Pat Capps Mehaffey

Calvin Coker born in Arkansas 1847, or there about. Moved to Texas, married Martha Melvinia Rippetoe or Melvinia Rippe, don't know for sure what Grandma's maiden name was. They were married about 1866. Moved to Oklahoma near Hugo in Choctaw Co. after 1900 I think. They lived in several places in Tx including Delta Co. maybe near Klondike. some of children were Martin, John, Robert, Otis, Elizabeth, Obilee and others but not sure of their names. I think Ed and or Earl. I might be able to find something in papers but don't know.

Cokers in Va and NC early: In 1678, Nicholas Wilson had filed the estate papers of William Cocker of Surry, VA whose widow he had married (Davis, Surry Wills, p. 34) This is from a fellow Wilson researcher. I also have seen other signs of Wilson & Cokers in the area of SS of VA and NS of NC. As I come across them again I will post them.....Marilyn

Dwight: You are right on target. My maternal grandmother from Florida was a Coker, descended from Daniel D. and Daniel J. My paternal grandmother was a Crocker from Illinois. I have very little on the Crockers, except that her father Harvey Crocker is buried in Mt. Pulaski cemetery in Logan County. He fought in the Blackhawk Indian Wars. My Coker kin fought in the various Seminole Indian wars. Not too proud of driving the Indians out of their homes, but seems to be the history of our country. Some of my other kin settling on the coast were responsible for driving other tribes out. Billy Harrison [email protected]
The Crocker name variance is usually Croker, Crooker, Croaker , the is always a "r" before the o in the CROCKER variants. In the COKER variants you usually find Koker, Caker, Cocker, Cooker, Coaker. Most mis - spelling in early year was due to the writer's own nationality. Wm Crocker of Isle of Wight Va is definitely CROCKER not COKER. Thank you , Beth and Dwight. Blessings Evelyn CROCKER also a COKER heir.
