Hi Bobbi, In checking my Taos marriages I find this: 12-9-1848 Jose Ramon Bachicha, single son of Antonio Bachicha, deceased, and Anna Maria Velasquez, resident of the plasa of Santisima Trinidad and native of Abiquiu, married Juana Rosalia Gallegos, single daughter of Juan de Jesus Gallegos and Juana de los Angeles Vigil, resident of the same place. Sponsors Jose Antonio Bachicha and Concepcion Lamelas, residents of Arroyo Seco. Witnesses Pablo Sandoval and Julian Urban, resident of Don Fernando. 12-13-1849 Jose de Jesus Bachicha, single son of Antonio Bachicha and Anna Maria Velasquez, resident of Santisima Trinidad and native of Abiquiu with Maria Josefa Martines, single daughter of Jose Martines and Maria Paula Maldonado, resident of the same place and native of Taos. Sponsors Ricardo Vigil and Maria Dolores Gallegos. Witnesses: Julian Urban and Pablo Sandoval of Don Fernando. 2-19-1848 Maria Soledad? Valentina, 6 day old, daughter of Juan Antonio Crus and Maria Lorensa Bachicha. PG: Antonio Crus and Maria Manuela Ribera. MG: Manuel Antonio Bachicha and Ana Maria Velasquez. In the Taos Baptisms I find: 4-24-1849 Jose Francisco, 3 days old, son of Jose Ramon Bachicha and Maria Rosalia Gallegos. PG (Paternal grandparents): Antonio Bachicha and Anna Maria Velasquez. MG: Juan Gallegos and Juana Vigil. Godparents unreadable. This is the last Bachicha baptism in my records for Taos. Going to the Family Groups for Abiquiu I find Manuel Antonio Bachicha, married to Anna Maria Velasquez with these two daughters: 1. Estefana Bachicha who married Juan Vigil, son of Salbador Vigil and Josefa Duran. Estefana had a daughter, Maria Dolores de Jesus Vigil who was baptized on 3-20-1842. 2. Maria Manuela Bachicha, who had a "natural" son, Juan Isidro Bachicha, baptized on 5-15-1842. These are on the FGS and I would need to get the microfilm out to do further research on this family and to see exactly what these records say. In Beyond Origins it says: BACHICHA: Bachicha people were living in the Rio Arriba villages in the second half of the eighteenth century. Manuel Antonio Bachicha, son of Salvador Bachicha and Maria Mestas, deceased, married Maria Teresa Alejabu, 9-8-1790 (M33, Santa Clara). His brother Pedro Bachicha and wife Carmel Atencio had a son, Jose Arcadio, 2-16-1834 (B-49, Taos). Certain indications lead one to suspect that this family stems from Juan Bautista Duran, alias Bachicha (NMF, 171). Using this as a reference point I went to my Santa Clara marriage notebook and found this: 9-8-1790 Manuel Antonio Bachicha single, son of Salbador Bachicha and Maria Mestas, deceased, married Maria Teresa Hejabu, single daughter of Isidro Hejabu and Juana Lujan, residents of Chama. Witnesses: Juan Isidro Lobato and Jose Alonso Truxillo. 3-19-1791 Salbador Bachicha, widow of Maria Duran married Maria Magdalena de Herrera, widow of Antonio Archuleta, residents of Chama. Witnesses: Manuel Gregorio Torres and Jose Alonso Truxillo. Jose Belasquez was a witness at a marriage 1-15-1792. 5-21-1793 Jose Alejabu married Antonia Lopez, widow of Antonio Mestas, Witnesses: Juan de Prado and Jose Lopez. 2-27-1797 Agustin Alejabu, single son of Isidro Antonio Alejabu and Juana Lujan, deceased, married Maria de Jesus Martin, single daughter of Salvador Martin and Juaquina Mascarenas. Witness: Jose Alonso. 10-25-1801 Agustin Alijabo, single son of Ysidro Alejabo and Juana Luxan, both deceased married Maria Antonia Torres, single daughter of Antonio Torres, deceased, and Maria Simona Jinzo residents of Chama. Manuel Bachicha was a witness at a marriage on 2-14-1808, 4-11-1809, I did not look further on witnesses for either of these families. 5-6-1807, Manuel Antonio Bachicha son of Salvador Bachicha, deceased, and Maria Duran, also deceased, married Ana Maria Belasquez, daughter of Juan Jose Belasquez and Rosa Tapia. Witnesses were Don Jose de la Cruz Quintana and Juan Archuleta. 1-9-1822 Pedro Antonio Alerabu, 25, single son of Ysidro Alerabu and Francesca de Herrera, spanish, deceased, married Maria Ursula Trujillo 30, single daughter of Juan Truxillo and Francesca Cordoba, spanish, deceased, residents of the plaza of San Jose. END of Santa Clara marriages. Santa Cruz baptisms: 7-20-1767 Jose del Carmen, born 7-16-1767, son of Ysidro Alejabu and Juana Lujan, residents of Pujuaque, jurisdiction of Nambe. Sponsors Juan Manuel Lujan and Maria Antonia Lujan. Taos Baptisms: 3-21-1824 Juana Maria of the Rancho, daughter of Pablo Borrego and Angela Belasquez. PG: Juan Borrego and Manuela Garcia. MG: Juan Jose Velasquez and Maria Rosa Tapia. 7-3-1831 Jose Francisco 6 days old son of Pedro Ygnacio Bachicha and Maria del Carmel Atencio, residents of Arroyo Hondo. PG: Salvador Bachicha and Margarita Mestas. MG: Ylario Atencio and Balbaneda Petrona. 2-16-1834 Jose Arcadio 6 days old son of Pedro Bachicha and Carmel Atencio, residents of Arroyo Hondo. PG: Salvador Bachicha and Maria Mestas. MG: Ylario Atencio and Balbaneda Lucero 7-28-1837 Maria Catarina 4 days old, daughter of Pedro Bachicha and Maria del Carmel Atencio. All grandparents the same except it gives the maternal grandmother as Balbaneda Giron. At least now you know where your Bachicha family came from. My suggestion would be to check the Santa Clara baptisms on microfilm to find more of this family. Hope this helps! Romulo was born 1848 (December maybe?) San Geronimo mission, Taos. Parents Jose Ramon Bachicha (son of Manual Antonio Bachicha), mother Juana Rosalia Gallegos( d. of Juan Gallegos and Juana Vigil) just have names, no dates. December 9, 1848 shows up as Romulos Birthday and his parents wedding date. In 1920 Romulo is in Huerfano with a 35 year old wife and 4 children ranging from 11-1 years old. Their marriage doesn't show up in Walsenburgs' records, at least not for me! Any help is welcome! Romulo Bachicha was born in N.M., Taos County, San Geronimo Mission in 1848. He is in the N.M. 1900 census with my grandmother Victoriana, age 5. I only find him again in Huerfano County in 1920. Victoriana is married to my grandfather, Eluterio Lucero with a son from a prior marriage and Romulo has a new family. I cannot find where they were or what happened to Victorianas 1st husband and Romulos 1st wife(Maria Antonia Duran) A "random act of genealogy kindness" would make my century!
