    3. I have been cutting these obits out of the newspapers and I have tried for two days to scan them and it's just not working. Some of them come out real good, others come out completely black. Nancy do you have any suggestions? If all else fails, I can take them into Pueblo and make copies of them and mail them out to all of you so you can type them up. What do you think? 3. Ye Gods....where to start...? First, you're scanning more than one at a time, right? Are you scanning ones that are printed on that heat-sensitive paper that the Walsenburg library uses in their microfilm reader? That could be a problem, if your scanner generates heat as it scans as well as light. Be careful, or you'll end up with black originals, even with a copier, if it does the same thing. Any that are on that kind of paper you might want to transfer to plain paper anyway, just to be safe. Over time, it'll turn black. The best thing to do is preview EVERY scan. I know it slows down the process, but you'll lose less time in the long run. Also, lay out several of your original sheets on a table first, and group them by lightness/darkness of the originals. If you "squinty" your eyes almost closed, you'll be able to see the brightness differences better. Also, use greyscale settings on your scanner, not black and white. Use color ones only if you have no luck with the greyscale, since it'll make the file a lot bigger. Hope this helps.
