    3. Good morning List members! Calling all volunteers...everyone please grab a shovel and come on over to my house! A couple weeks ago my son and I got together and decided to order trees, you know both of us have new homes with undeveloped landscape. Oh this was so much fun...we ended up ordering in over 50 trees. We were both so excited. Well it seems last Saturday this son and his horse parted ways very abruptly and Dan became airborne for a few minutes. Everyone knows you can't get hurt when you're airborne....it's those sudden stops that will get you. Please send Dan some warm healing thoughts. We are all so proud of his daughter, my granddaughter. At only 7 years old she got on Daddy's cell phone and called for help. She's quite a girl. Now I have a son with a shattered collar bone that is out of commission for the next 8 weeks. So guess who needs to arrange to get those holes for the trees dug? I teased him and told him he did this on purpose just so he wouldn't have to dig holes <grin>. Poor guy, we can laugh about it now but believe me, I'm the typical Mother and it scared the heck out of me, and he's in a lot of pain. I don't care how big they get, they're still my babies. So if any of you want to play in the mud, just come on over because I have no idea how I'm going to get all those holes dug. SHEESH, now what do I do. Okay, back to business.....Taylor should be giving us an update on the census anytime now. This little lady is so excited about this, as we all are. But she has worked for so long doing this transcription and wants so badly to see the whole thing online. She tells me she has some GREAT people that stepped up and volunteered and they are all doing a very good job. THANK YOU Taylor!!! Ilene has sent in three more years of marriages that I need to proof and get online and I hope to do that real soon. Ilene has been a jewel, in more ways than one, and I know all of you appreciate the time she is putting into getting these marriages into a database for all of you. THANK YOU Ilene!!! Hey, I have a great idea...let's have a big slumber party at my house and all of you can bring your lap tops and we can get all this stuff typed up and get it online and...and...and... okay, I'm only joking, no really, it was just a joke <very big grin>. Boy, I better watch what I say on this List. Last time, all I did was mention a barbecue and we ended up with a full fledged conference <very big grin>. Don't anyone tell Kevin but I thought about going out to Vegas and kidnapping Nancy and bringing her here for a week to overhaul my whole system and upgrade everything for me. Can you visualize that? Here's Nancy standing in front of my house hollering "Okay fellas, just back those semis on in here" <LOL>!!! Then she'd just throw up her hands and call the contractors to build on to the house. Oh yes, I can see it now....<what a visual!> After I got done with the Naturalizations I started in on the obits again. Remember all the ones we got from the Pueblo Chieftain? I'm still working to get them in a database so they can be put in alpha order. I have sent out over 200 of them to the other Counties that were mentioned in the obits so it's taking alot of time and work to get those going. I finally had to quit doing that until I get them in the database and they will be easier to manage. But the obits are an ongoing project. I am sorry to say I have NOT gotten back to trying to scan the paper ones. Please don't give up on me. So much to do and so little time to do it in. Now for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT...I am now the County Coordinator for Pueblo County. I'm pretty excited about getting some data online for the County, beings I live here. But to be honest it came at a bad time, with Dan getting hurt and all the trees coming in. But you know me, I'll give it all I've got. It will be so nice to see another one of our Counties develop the way Huerfano has. Although it will take a very long time for Pueblo to catch up to Huerfano. So please wish me luck with it. I really do think it will work in quite well with our Huerfano County work, so many of the families from Walsenburg and the area moved into Pueblo. And another BIG ANNOUNCEMENT....I am working with one of our very own and twisting her arm to become my Co-Coordinator for Pueblo County. I can't announce who it is until she gives me an absolute thumbs up, but hopefully that will come in the next couple of days. (oh please, please, please) And if any of you had ancestors in the Pueblo area, you know I definitely want to hear from you! Now as Spring starts rolling in I need to get prepared to get back out and do some field work again, so I stress to all of you again...if you're going to be in the area this year PLEASE volunteer a couple hours of your time to the Huerfano web page and come out and help with the field work. I need all the help I can get. As a matter of necessity I will be cutting down on the hours I spend in office work, so I do hope once again that you all will pick up the slack here on the List. Everyone was so great last year when I spent so much time out in the field and I still say THANK YOU to all that jumped in when I couldn't be available. Please keep the List going for all of us. Once again you will be getting the late breaking news from the field <grin>. And last, but certainly not least, I say WELCOME to all of our new List members, we've had quite a few lately. All of you just feel free to say hello to the List and let us know what names you are researching, you'd be surprised to find you may have a hidden cousin on this List. If there is anything we can help you with, just let us know. You've joined a very friendly bunch of people here. The List has been pretty quiet lately and I was wondering about that, but I know quite a few of you are working with Taylor, and I always have to remind myself that Spring comes a lot earlier to most of you so I imagine you're all out doing yard work and gardening. Check in with us once in awhile and let us know what's going on in your world. That's it for today's report, all of you take care and please let me hear from you. Hugs, Karen Mitchell 2002 has been declared "The Year of "Unity". Pass it on.
