    3. Just a note, that some libraries will not take it without a ISBN number. I would like to know how to go about getting one (ISBN number) and how expensive they are, etc. I would like to do the same thing. I started my autobiography several years ago, but have never really completed it. My suggestion would be to place several copies in various repositories. Many libraries have Oral History Programs where they go out and interview the elderly of the County or community, so that should be your target. I would suggest these areas: The town or County library AND historical society where you were born. The area where your grandparents or parents were born, or both. Any locale where you would show up on the census. The major library AND historical society of the State where you were born. The major library AND historical society of the State where you now live. A copy for each of your children and grandchildren. Copies for any and all distant relatives that you know of. At least two major libraries on each coast. Any web site that would encompass the above areas. (But think of privacy issues first.) Paper copies in your own personal files. Now, my reasoning behind this is that the more copies you have out there, the more likely it would be for one of them to survive and to be handed down through the generations, either through the family or through the public repositories. I have several of these that were written, or told, by my ancestors many years ago and have been invaluable to me in doing my research. One of which was instrumental in getting me going in the right direction on one of my lines after I had received some erroneous data from a far distant cousin. It is a recollection that was told by my 3rd great grandfather about his ancestors and his life. Only a genealogy researcher can appreciate the thrill I felt when I found this little piece of family history. Any one else have any ideas? Here in the frozen northern plains, we had a blizzard blow in yesterday afternoon. The snow, thank goodness, has ended now, but the wind continues to howl. Spring! As soon as the snow melts enough so I can find the ground, I'll think about the garden. :-) Here's a project I'm working on connected with genealogy. I'm writing my autobiography. I'm trying to put in all that information I'd like to have about my ancestors, thinking that some day I might have a descendant who will be as interested in family history as I am. Now the major problem is figuring out how to be sure he or she gets a copy of my autobiography. Any suggestions on where to leave it? I'm thinking maybe a hundred or more years down the line I'd like this to be available. Bobbalee
