    1. Re: [COHUERFA] The meaning of PIE (Pawye)?

    3. I believe "Pawye" and "Mawye" are variations of Padre and Madre. Hispanic children learning to speak may refer to their father or mother by those terms. My mother tells a story of a child who calls her father "Pawye" and mother as "Mawye". Also, I sometimes affectionately call my mother "Mawye" and she refers to me as "Pawye" too. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pY.2ADE/927 Message Board Post: I've been doing some research on my maternal side of my family and I've began to wonder about a nickname. My greatgrandfather, Juan Pineda, used to be referred to as "Pie" (pawye) by me, my siblings and just about everyone else that I can recall. It sounds like an indian word but I really have no idea. I wonder if anyone out there can tell me what the meaning or origin of this word is. Thanks Onesimo (Enos) Cordova
