Hello Karen, The link does not work. I get Welcome to your future Website We Thank You for joining the iPowerWeb community. Before we know it the little ones will be back in school and the fall season will be here. It rained all day yesterday and it's to wet to play in the yard so I've been trying to get some of my projects caught up. I got quite a bit behind while we were on stand-by evacuation for the Mason fire. So if anyone has written to me and I haven't responded, please do contact me again. I have some new pages for you: http://www.kmitch.com/Huerfano/conejosdeaths.html These are the Conejos death records that I told you I would post. They are from 1860 - 1897. http://www.kmitch.com/Huerfano/baps1.html St Mary's Baptisms, Walsenburg, CO - 204 Avila, Cruz, Laforet and Galvan records were initially transcribed by Shalane Sheley-Cruz in 2000. In July 2005 Karen Mitchell added 941 more records. These records start in 1870, the first recorded baptisms in Huerfano County. PLEASE NOTE: This is a work in progress! Some of these records are not complete in this database but we do have the rest of the information. I wanted to at least post an index so that you could search for your ancestors. If you find an ancestor that does not have completed data, just write to me and I will gladly post the information. Karen Mitchell km1109@aculink.net http://www.kmitch.com/Huerfano/bapsadd.html These are additional baptisms that were extracted from the St. Mary's marriage records. These are from all over the world and may well give you an idea of where your ancestor was from if they are listed. It's interesting to see the different States and Countries listed here. Let me know what you think of the new pages! Enjoy! Karen

Hi everyone, MY FINGERS HURT!! (cracking up) Okay I'm done whining. LOL Just wanted to let you know that the letters A - L in the St. Mary's baptisms are completed. I know some of you have these records from the Conference we had in 2000. Anyone want to volunteer to do a remaining letter? I keep plugging away at them. With a little help we could get them done a whole lot quicker. Enjoy! Karen
If this has been pointed out previously, sorry about the repetition! There is a new index to Huerfano County Inheritance Tax records at the CO archives 1910-1946: http://www.colorado.gov/dpa/doit/archives/inh_tax/huerfano/index.html

Sorry folks, I took the St. Mary's baptisms back down. I went to check on an item and found the data didn't all transfer over correctly. I am checking it now and hope to have it back up again real soon. My apologies. Karen

A little information on the Morley Mine: http://climchange.cr.usgs.gov/info/kt/sites_sr.html This one is in the works but looks promising for the future: http://www.acu.edu/academics/history/cokedale/
SPAM FILTERS. Recently a genealogy newsletter recommended a free spam filtering service called 0spam.com. If configured correctly, this spam filter is supposed to work with mailing lists like those at RootsWeb. However, many RootsWeb list administrators have reported problems with list subscribers using this spam filter who do not have the program properly configured to handle list mail. As a result, challenge e-mails are being sent out to everyone who posts to a list to which the person using this filter subscribes. This is unacceptable and users of the misconfigured 0spam.com filter are being removed from the mailing list as they are identified. If you are using this spam filtering program, please check your system configuration carefully to be sure it is properly set to allow list mail without sending out a challenge/response message. Not receiving your mail from RootsWeb mailing lists? This might be your problem.
Could someone tell me if and what books are availavle on the history of the mines and tragedies in Colorado? Looking for information on the mine at Morely, CO Thanks, Toni
Interesting sites! http://www.huguenot-manakin.org/ Also: Ethnic mailing lists can be found by starting here http://lists.rootsweb.com/ and scrolling down to the Other category. Click on the links to the various ethnic sub-categories. The ethnic message boards can be found here: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.ethnic Another well-hidden secret at RootsWeb is the fact that ethnic lists and boards, as well as other RootsWeb resources, are not all centered around European groups that immigrated to America. There are message boards and/or mailing lists for Maori, Ainu of Japan, Danube-Swabian German, as well as Cross-Race, Hispanic, Celtic, and Gypsy heritage. The scope is international and only limited by the bounds of your interests and imagination. If you want to brush up on your knowledge of wars and uprisings that influenced the lives of your ancestors, RootsWeb has an international array of military subject message boards: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.military Military board topics are as diverse as the Boer War, the Austro- Hungarian Military, and the Mexican Revolution. Military mailing lists of equally broad subject matter can be found here: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Military/ Military history we may have forgotten from school days comes alive when viewed within the context of our ancestors' lives and participation. What role did religion play in the lives of your ancestors? Perhaps religious persecution was a major force behind your ancestors' migration patterns. We can learn all about the role of religion by using the Religion and Religious message boards located here: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.religious Topics range from Quaker to Jewish, and Shaker to Shinto. And don't forget the wide selection of mailing lists on this topic: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Religion/ Perhaps your ancestors followed a specific occupation or trade -- or have some family members have been diagnosed with an inherited genetic disease so you would like to explore more about your family's genes and health concerns. See the RootsWeb's Topic message boards and look under the Other category of mailing lists for those of interest to you.

I live in Nebraska, and so can't help with the photocopying, but I can give you some hints about organizing them. At the museum where I volunteer, we have put copies of the obituaries in binders alphabetically. We have multiple binders for each letter. Each binder is given its own code such as "A, voulme 1" As we aquire new obituaries, from recent deaths or newly discovered obituaries that hadn't been previously included, we add them to the back of the last binder of that letter. Each letter has it's own index, which makes it easier to edit and add new names. Also easier to search. The obits end up in mostly chronological order as well. Our index just has name, year of death and the volume and page number. It is very easy to locate them. If we get a request, I can scan them and send them as an email attachment, or copy them and send them snail mail. We have a similar index for the marriage records we have. Theresa Bright
Ladies and Gentlemen of the List: Here is a perfect example of the importance of knowing the obituaries available at the Walsenburg Library. It has been my dream to have the obituary cards photocopied before they are lost or stolen. If copies were mailed to me I could type up a list of available obituaries and that list would be placed on our webpage for everyone's research. Is there anyone who would be willing to photocopy the cards so this dream can become a reality for all of us? I am happy to do the work, but need the material before I can transcribe it. Any takers? Even one letter of the alphabet??? Louise
Looking for a deat record for Maria Encarnacion (Atencio) Martinez. Died between 1900 and 1910, in Walsenburg, CO. According to 2 census sheets she was born in 1850, New Mexico. Probably in the same area she lived since it was NM in 1850. She was married to Miguel Antonio Martinez. His obituary states his wife preceeded him in death. He died in October of 1910. Any help would be so appreciated. Toni
There is a program called Open Office that is free and works just like the Microsoft Office programs. Here it is: http://www.openoffice.org/ I haven't tried it so I can't endorse it, but if any of you do, please give us a report. Karen
