Many thanks to Karen, Dick Chenault, and John Trujillo for the photographs of Gardner Protestant Cemetery! We found the headstone and dates for my grandfather's brother, Byron Caldwell, whose name was not on the original transcription for that cemetery. Kudos to all -- Chris Crowe

Hello to all: We are planning a Tri-County Obituary update for January 15, 2006. All obituaries received by January 7 will be included in this proposed update. Has anyone found an ancestor in the index cards from the Spanish Peaks Library? Haven't had a chance to look yet? Hopefully, this is just a result of the busy holiday season, and the obituary contributions will begin to come in soon! Please check out the new database at: http://www.kmitch.com/Huerfano/indexcardsa.html Wouldn't it be wonderful to have your ancestor's obituary online instead of it being buried in the microfilm file at the library? The more our family history is shared, the greater our chances are of preserving that history and passing it along to future generations. And, who knows, you just might find a wonderful new detail about those who came before you, that will help your research progress by leaps and bounds! ;-)) May I also extend my sincere wishes for a Happy New Year! Louise Adams Tri-County Obituary Coordinator /(~.~)\
As I sit here contemplating the roads we have walked this year and the horizons we hope to see in the New Year my thoughts go astray to each individual that has touched my life this year. My wish for each of you is that in this new year you will find peace and contentment, that you will each reach out to someone new in your lives and give them a helping hand with absolutely no thought of recompense, that you will heal any old hurts that have passed through your lives that are unresolved, that you will smile at strangers and hug the people you know and love, that you will say "I love you" often and with sincerity. I wish for you the opportunity to point out the sparkle of the stars to a child that is afraid of the dark, and the opportunity to open a door for an elderly or assist them across the street. I wish for you the ability to drop a handful of change into a homeless persons hand with no thought of what they may do with it, knowing that it's not their deeds that are important, but yours. I hope that each and every one of you have the opportunity to work with someone that needs a "ME attitude" turned into an "US attitude". Because in wishing these things for your new year, and striving to meet these small goals I know you will receive the serenity that will fulfill your lives. Each of you have touched my life in various ways and I am ever so thankful that you have come into my life, to encourage me to keep striving, to keep going, to do what no one else wants to do, to comfort me in MY time of need. I truly thank you for this, you've made my life so much fuller and so much more enjoyable. It doesn't matter if we are serious in looking for our ancestors, or if we are joking around just having fun, my life has been richer because of you. THANK YOU. And I hope I have added at least a small degree of happiness to your life also. I look forward to working with each one of you in the new year and hope we can help each other, regardless of the need. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, Karen

Greetings to All: Karen Mitchell, Dick Chenault, and I are happy to announce the completion of a two-month project to film, transcribe, and proofread the 11,100 obituary index cards held in the Spanish Peaks Library of Walsenburg. These cards were transcribed so the information would be available for the Colorado researcher with the hope that your family obituaries be donated to our Tri-County Obituary Database. Please do make this a consideration and help our obituary database grow. The obituary may be typed in an email including the newspaper and date of publication and sent to Karen or to me and it will be included in the next update. There is no better way to honor your ancestor's participation in the development of Colorado! I am planning an update of the Tri-County Obituary Database around the middle of January and would greatly appreciate the contributions from the Spanish Peaks Library District. This valuable database is available online and free of charge at: http://www.kmitch.com/Huerfano/indexcardsa.html Information on how to obtain the obituary for your ancestor is available on each page of the alphabetical index. Look forward to hearing from you soon, Louise Adams Tri-County Obituary Coordinator
Hello to All: Thank you for your very warm and wonderful birthday greetings! Although I'm another year older, I still feel like a chick! Well,.......I guess you could say like......Granny Goose! From Rootsweb Review: COLORADO SUES GENEALOGY COMPANY. "The suit, filed in Arapahoe County District Court against Maxwell MacMaster and his company, Morphcorp LLC, seeks to cease the operation and penalize him up to $2,000 per book sold, which could amount to $300 million," according to the Denver Post. The suit claims 150,000 people nationwide were swindled out of $49.95 each when they bought a book with fake family histories from Morphcorp of Denver. People who bought these genealogical "yearbooks" got the same family coat of arms, the same family recipes and even the same family jokes, according to a lawsuit, which was filed in late November. Consumers with complaints regarding Morphcorp or the "Family Yearbook" may call the Colorado Consumer Line toll-free 1-800-222-4444 (in Colorado) or 1-800-332-2071 (out of state) or may download a complaint form from: http://www.ago.state.co.us/consline/complaint.pdf For more information see the press release at the Colorado Attorney General's website: http://www.ago.state.co.us/press_detail.cfm?pressID=733 and read the newspaper article at: http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_3247588
