    3. BINGO!!! THANK YOU Wynelle! Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 9:48 PM Subject: [COHUERFA] ORPHAN PHOTO Dear List: Betty Jo Schmidt Cordova, was raised in Gardner. I had her look at the photo and she immediately recognized the bride and groom. They are Della Martinez and Frank Velarde. She didn't hesitate. She knows these people and is good friends with Frank's brother Tony who lives in Walsenburg and is a retired State Patrol.. Frank and Della still live in the Gardner area. She didn't recognize the younger girls and boys, but they are probable brothers and sisters or best friends of the bride and groom. Wynnelle

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 2:29 PM Subject: HISTORIC DATE-AND-TIME-COMING! HISTORIC DATE-AND-TIME-COMING! Believe it or not but 8.02 PM on February 20, 2002, will be a historic moment in time. It will not be marked by the chiming of any clocks or the ringing of bells, but at that precise time, on that specific date, something will happen which has not occurred for 1,001 years and will never happen again. As the clock ticks over from 8.01 PM on Wednesday, February 20, time will, for sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry 2002, 2002, 2002, or to be more precise - 20:02, 20/02, 2002. This historic event will never have the same poignancy as the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which marks Armistice Day, but it is an event which has only ever happened once before, and is something which will never be repeated. The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch and the 24-hour clock - at 10.01 am on January 10, 1001. And because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never happen again.

    3. HI Dave and all, For those of you that don't know: Huerfano County was one of the original 17 counties in what we know of as the State of Colorado. Huerfano was formed in 1861 and encompasses all of present day Huerfano County, Las Animas, Baca, Bent, Otero, Prowers, Crowley, the west half of Kiowa, and the southern part of Pueblo counties. In 1865 the current boundary of Pueblo was established. In 1866 Las Animas was taken from Huerfano. In 1874 Bent was taken from Las Animas. In 1889 Otero and Prowers were taken from Bent. In 1889 Baca was taken from Las Animas. In 1889 Kiowa was taken from Cheyenne and Bent. In 1911 Crowley was taken from Bent and Otero. This will give you some idea of where your relatives were at different time frames. All of the records from 1861 (formation of Huerfano) to 1866 (formation of Las Animas) will be found in Huerfano. Prior to 1861 most of the records will be found in New Mexico records. Hope this helps! I'm sorry Dave but you are not allowed to ask me questions that I can't answer <very big grin>. As I understand it, which may be only MY understanding, the Indian Reserve was well into place prior to Colorado Territory being recognized, when the eastern part was still considered a part of Kansas. I would have to do more research on it to give you a correct answer on that though. Better yet, who wants to volunteer to try to find some data on that Indian Reserve? 3. ----- Original Message ----- From: OCORDOVA To: Karen Mitchell(Genealogy) Sent: Friday, February 15, 2002 12:21 PM Subject: Orphan Photo Karen I saw the orphan wedding photo and I have the following vague recollections: The best man is a Martinez - I cannot think of his first name. The maid of honor is his wife but I cannot think of her name either. I knew of an Abe Martinez who I believe was a nephew to this man - Abe became the owner of a construction company in Colorado Springs in the 1960s. I cannot think of Abe's father's name either. The Martinez owned some ranch land between Walsenburg and Gardner. I know these Martinez' were part of a clan that included the Valardes and Hurtados (through marriage). Tony Valarde was sheriff in the 50s & 60's. I do not know who the bride and groom are either - the groom has a resemblance to the Valardes but doesn't mean much. Like I said, these are vague recollections, but I hope they help finding a home for the picture. Onesimo
