    3. Hmmm, I just went back through the Archives and can't find the message I'm looking for. I may be wrong but it seems someone just brought that name up, besides you. I'll keep looking! 3. Good morning members! Greetings from a very cross-eyed Coordinator! <grin> I have a big announcement to make. I have been working on getting all of the cemetery photos online and this last batch has me cross-eyed for sure. I just uploaded the La Veta cemetery. The listing went from 1,084 listings to 1,789 so you can see there's alot of new data there. PLUS I added all of the deed information to the listing. WOW what a huge database this is! AND.....tada...all the photos that I have of La Veta are finally posted. Yep, all 1200+ of them little buggers! Boy, what a job, and I'm glad it's done. The Map Section numbers won't mean much to you right now because I don't have the map online yet. Hope to do that real soon. But if you go take a look at it you'll see that the expanded information will be quite helpful to all of you that have ancestors buried there. And please do let me know what you think of it, so I know I'm on the right track here. It's at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cohuerfa/lavetacem.htm Please remember that section 5 has NOT been filmed yet, so there will still be more to come. And I haven't added in the photos from Louise and Jim and will do that in the next couple days. So as you can see, by concentrating on the photos I have neglected getting the Naturalizations done, but that's coming along too. When I get blurry eyed working on one project I switch to another. Anyone want to help type those up? Tammy, bless her little heart, has submitted the St. May's Baptisms 1874 - 1876. When I started proofing it I knew something was wrong. All of the work Tammy did was correct (and we THANK YOU Tammy), but the film was wrong. So all of you BEWARE! Some of the films at the LDS are incomplete. The film that Tammy used had 32 missing baptisms just for the 1874 entries. If you are going to order a baptismal film of St. Mary's order the one that has 1870 to 1901, it appears to be the most complete. If you have already checked the film at the LDS and didn't find your ancestors, it may be because the film you used was incomplete. Tammy decided to hold off on having her database posted until she can get the other film and add in all the baptisms that are missing. Which brings me to my next point...If any of you are reading film PLEASE take the time to at least type up one year and have it posted for all the other researchers to use. It doesn't matter if it's baptisms, marriages, land records...whatever. Try to help us out by contributing a little something. Now, what do you all want to see added to the Huerfano Pages? What do you need? Give me some ideas. I still have a ton of data here that I want to post but I want you to give me suggestions on what you would like to see first. Friday we had almost 70 degree weather. I went to Pueblo to get old Bessie fixed and get her a new battery, and I had to put the air conditioner on. Today we can't even see the Greenhorns, we're in the grips of a winter storm. BRRR it's cold here. Okay I'm starting to put together my "TO DO" List for this Springs field work. Anyone have any requests? I hope to finish up the cemetery filming. But I also thought to get some photos from around the County so if you'd like a photo of something special, just let me know. I haven't heard any new guesses on the Orphan photos so please take a look at them and see if we can get them identified. They are at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cohuerfa/orphan.html Ilene is still working on the marriages for all of us and for that we owe her a great big THANK YOU. I just couldn't do it without all of our wonderful volunteers! I haven't heard from Taylor so I don't know how the proofing on the 1880 census is coming along. I hope all of you are trying to get that project wrapped up so we can get it open to the public. How about it Taylor? Can you give us an update? Taylor has worked so long and hard on this project, she needs a big THANK YOU from all of us. Janet has just submitted her 5 uncles for the Veterans Page. THANK YOU Janet! Anyone else want to submit their Veterans? I hope to confer with Ken Taylor again and get the information on the Chama cemetery burials posted in the next week. As I told you before, he's a wealth of information on the Crestones/Chama area. If any of you have questions about the families in that area, Ken is the one to ask. As you can see, we have quite a few projects in the works and just as soon as they are completed I will get them loaded for all of you. And I still have a couple of cemeteries that need the photos posted. Plus we still need to get those obits out to be typed up and posted. So many irons in the fire! And by the way, if any of you want to nominate the Huerfano Pages for awards, you just feel free to do so. It's a great recognition of all the hard work WE have put into them. Yes, I run the pages and post the data, but without YOUR input we wouldn't have as much done. And I THANK all of you for your contributions. I recently had someone comment that she had to keep checking the Huerfano web site every day because it seems like there's something new being posted all the time. So all of you that have contributed can take a big bow and pat yourselves on the back for all the hard work! Hope you all have a GREAT day, let me hear from you! 2. O.K> I have another source for I.D. Johnny Vallejos has also been in this county all his life and his family for 3 generations. He agrees that the bride and groom are Della Martinez and Frank Velarde. Standing next to Frank is Tony Martinez, and next to Della is his wife, Ernestine Salazar. Ernestine is from the Salazar family that lived at the Toltec Mines. They still live in Walsenburg on Pennsylvania. The man next to Tony could be his brother, they have the same facial structure. Neither Betty or Johnny know who the other young woman is, or who the children are. Wynnelle

    1. [COHUERFA] Martinez Family
    2. Hello List - I am writing to see if anyone has information that can help me with my research of my great grandmother and her side of the family. My great grandmother's name was Eva Martinez and she was married to Rafael Sena. I believe they were married about 1899 in New Mexico, but I am not sure where. Eva and Rafael were both from New Mexico - Rafael was born in Santa Fe and I am not sure of the exact location for Eva. Eva's parents were Abran Martinez and Antonita Pacheco. Eva was born February 8, 1881, and died February 27, 1917, in Walsenburg at the age of 36. According to the 1910 census for Colorado, Las Animas County, Cokedale, Rafael and Eva Sena were living on Lacaivanna Avenue with their children Estella, Maclovia, Veronis, and a cousin Vivianita Sena. I believe Eva's father and siblings were also living with them according to the census. They were Abran Martinez, brothers Manuel and Jose A., and a sister, Maria. Rafael Sena, Abran, Manuel and Jose A. Martinez were all listed as coal miners. The 1920 census for Colorado, Huerfano County, Walsenburg, shows that Rafael Sena was living on West 4 Street with his children Stella, Veronis, Andres (my grandfather) and Aguinaldo (Lalo). My great grandmother was gone by this time as was one of their children, Maclovia. Also shown living on the same street was Jose A. Martinez, his wife, Vivianita, and their children Abran, Patrocinia, and Jose V. Manuel Martinez, his wife, Estifanita, and their children Doloritas, Fermin, and Antonio were also living on West 4 Street. (I do know that my grandfather's aunt's name was Estifanita Martinez.) According to this census, Rafael Sena and Jose A. Martinez were coal miners. Manuel Martinez was a carpenter. Also shown living on the same street was a Maria Martinez, Laundress, living with her daughter Aurora Romero, and an Abran Martinez living with his wife Antonia, also a Laundress. I am wondering if this is Eva's sister Maria and father, Abran. My great grandfather, Rafael Sena, remarried in 1927 to Beneranda Manzanares in Walsenburg. They had a son, Tobias, born in 1928. My great grandmother died when my grandfather was 7 years old. I would like to find more information about her and her daughter, Maclovia, who died very young. I have been writing to obtain information from other sources, but so far have not had any responses. If anyone has information about this Martinez family, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you! Sandy

    1. [COHUERFA] Cruz in Aguilar
    2. I am looking for information on Paula (Pablita) Cruz. She was born about 1856 and married Manuel Abeyta about 1873 in unknown place. Manuel Abeyta died in 1918 and is buried at St Anthony Cemetary. I believe Pablita died in Aguilar before Manuel as she does not appear in the 1910 Census. A long time ago, before doing serious genealogy, I had some information that there is a Pablita Abeyta buried in section 7 at St Anthony's and she died 7-20-1904. Is there anyone that could find information for me? Is this Pablita the wife of Manuel Abeyta? Thank you so much Toni

    2. Dear List: Betty Jo Schmidt Cordova, was raised in Gardner. I had her look at the photo and she immediately recognized the bride and groom. They are Della Martinez and Frank Velarde. She didn't hesitate. She knows these people and is good friends with Frank's brother Tony who lives in Walsenburg and is a retired State Patrol.. Frank and Della still live in the Gardner area. She didn't recognize the younger girls and boys, but they are probable brothers and sisters or best friends of the bride and groom. Wynnelle
