Well here we are a whole year past the Conference of last summer and I just now found out that some of the links for the pages weren't working. So I went in and fixed that, now all 4 pages of photos are showing and the narrative page works too. Sorry about that. No one had ever said anything and I thought it was all working just fine until a researcher told me today that it wasn't. I wonder if anyone out there can tell me what the meaning or origin of this word is. Thanks Onesimo (Enos) Cordova

They sold out in a couple of years, people loved the land so, and the company offered in house financing with minimum down. The old ranch house is still there and is occupied. The Alamo mine site has a home built around it, they left the old ruins and tried to match their home to them. There is a Major RAnch Association. They put in roads and power. I don't know the history, someone else might help you with that. It was owned by John Homerdink when he sold out to Red Creek Ranch Development Company in 1995. Wynnelle

I knew your grandparents and several of your aunts and uncles. Lillian belonged to Cowbells, he went on several trail rides we had at Cuchara He , Charles Keeling and JOhn Taft wereour old timers and I think he was 83 the last time he went. Their place was North of La Veta and few years ago was sold and developed. They still call it Major Ranches even though it had several owners after your Grand parents. One of your cousins Sherry is married to Shane Goemmer. They live down in N.M. Close to Roswell. Buddy Majors was the mayor of Mountainair N.M the last I heard. I think Duncan still lives in new Mex also. Your grandparents originally came from Magdalena N.M. I think they went back there when they sold this place and are probably burried there. I think I probably have a picture of Malcolm on the trail ride. If you'd like a copy let me know. and I will try to find it. Who's kid are you?? Shirley Mason Jameson La Veta.
Hello Listers After a couple of failed attempts I have managed to subscribe to the list! A message did get through to Karen Mitchell though, who has kindly offered to check some records for me (thanks again Karen). To save Karen the trouble has any lister come across JOSEPH WINDLE GOODINSON in their research? This is the information that I have on him: Joseph was born in 1844 in Kilnhurst, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England, the son of David and Elizabeth Goodinson (nee Windle). On the 1861 census he is shown as a mechanic. Joseph was in attendance when his father died in 1862. From his fathers will he received £20 for apprenticing to a trade and an additional £20 when he had served his apprenticeship for the purpose of him entering into business. A relative, also interested in family history, recalls seeing an old photograph of Joseph in a 'ranch style' setting. Joseph died on or around 3 December 1876, his will states: ".....Joseph Windle Goodinson late of Cucharas Colordo in the United States of America deceased, who died on or since the 3rd of December 1876 the place of his death being unknown...." Letters of Administration dated 26 August 1885, amounted to £96, 9s, 6d. Intestate was granted to Josephs brother, George Goodinson (my GG Grandfather) of Kilnhurst, South Yorkshire, England. Did Joseph use his inheritance to move to the States? What was happening in Cucharas in the 1860/70s to make Joseph choose this spot? Any idea of what might have happened to him?! Any information gratefully received. Helen Jones Rotherham South Yorkshire England

I believe it was taken in the 1940's. The hotel rooms were on the 2nd floor of the building, the entryway was on the steet level in the middle of the building. A staircase led up to the rooms. On the street level were the businesses. The U-B Grocery was on the left side, and the Major Coal Company office was on the right side (later, the Walsenburg Music Company was located in this part of the building). The Bellotti and Ugolini families owned and operated the businesses in this building from the 1930's to the 1980's, and the building was burned down by arsonists in 1997. Hope you enjoy this historic photo. John Bellotti
