Both Thomas and Nancy are buried at Hot Sulphur Springs, Grand County, CO. Last record of James is found when he was elected road overseer in Grand County in 1889. Can not find anything on James after that date. Could not find any marker for him in local cemetery. Also looking for James's brothers, Fred Dean and William Dean. Can not find any of them in the 1900 census. Believe William Dean may have died around May 1902, Denver.

    1. [COGrand] Grand Lake
    2. I just joined this list this morning, and have a question... Over the Thanksgiving meal yesterday, my dad asked if I knew anything about one of my grandfather's relatives that owned or operated the Grand Lake resort in Grand County, CO in the early 1900s. I wasn't aware of it, so now I need to track down this family rumor. Does anyone on this list know anything about the history of the Grand Lake area? I'm probably looking for the owners of the resort, or a history of the resort. SPECK or BEAT(T)Y surnames may be involved, but there could be others. Thanks Gary Speck ([email protected]) "Experience a past life -- visit a ghost town!" 1. [COGrand] Surname Conway
    2. Connie Dankesreiter
    3. I'm seeking information on the family of Cornelius Conway who was a section foreman for a number of railroads in central Colorado including the Moffat Road. My father, Thomas Conway was also a railroad man and among other railroads, he also worked for the Moffat between 1918 and 1924 or 5. My dad was a fireman on a snowplow that was involved in a snowslide above Arrow. The engineer was Sid Kane. My mother Grace Large was a school teacher in Tabernash where she met my father. They apparently knew a hotel owner Chep and his wife quite well. Im interested in the names and children of Agnes and Matt Rogers (Harold and Lenore) my grandfather's stepdaughter.who may have gone to school or have been born in Tabernash. Also his stepdaughter, Mary Crowe Conway. Any of this ring a bell?

    2. Funeral Services at Kremmling Community Church for Oscar Pickering Funeral services for Oscar C. Pickering were held Tuesday. July 14, 1970, at 2:00 p.m., at the Kremmling Community Church with Reverend Max Lynch officiating. Organist was Mrs. Carl Breeze, Carl and Ray Breeze sand "Beyond the Sunset" and "Now the Day is Over." Pallbearers were Mark Curry, Henry Yust, Glen Pharo, Charles Bloom, Elmer Stephens and Joe Mitchell. Interment was in the Kremmling Cemetery with Masonic Committal Services conducted by Mount Wolford lodge#163, AF & AM. Mr. Pickering, who had been in failing health for some time and a resident of Charm Acres Nursing Home in Denver, was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital Thursday and passed away at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, July 12. Oscar Pickering was born near Saline, Kansas, October 31, 1881 the oldest son of Samuel Hayes and Cornelia Elizabeth Pickering. There were four boys, Oscar, George and Will, and another son who died when he was a few months old. The family moved first near Rocky Ford where the father worked on construction of the railroad, living later near Pueblo, Wray, and Minturn. Later they moved to Middle Park and his father homesteaded on the Blue River and several years later bought the Jack Palmer place, part of the present home ranch. The Pickerings had a small cabin in Kremmling and the boys attended school there. Oscar finished the eighth grade and went to work. He started out first working for Mr. Call and worked for several other ranchers. On October 25,1903 he married Stella "Dolly" Becker and lived on the upper ranch on the Troublesome where their boys, Ralph, Clyde, Frank and Orley were born. In 1914, they built the present house where Orley Pickering and his wife still live. They continued ranching until they turned the management of the home ranch over to their son. They lived in a newer smaller house near the home until Mrs. Pickering passed away in July, 1961. About a year later, Mr. Pickering went to Denver where he resided at the Pierce Hotel until failing health caused him to enter Charm Acres Nursing Home. Mr. and Mrs. Pickering celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at their home on the ranch on October 25, 1953 with a reception given by their sons and their families. Mr. Pickering was a Past Master of Mount Wolford Lodge #163 Af & AM and a Past Patron of Starlight Chapter #127. Mr. and Mrs. Pickering were both very active in lodge and community circles and contributed much to the development of the Kremmling Area. Surviving Mr. Pickering are his four sons, Frank, Ralph, Clyde and Orley, 12 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Sophie (George) Pickering, and a host of friends. 1. [COGRAND] Lelah Ault - Middle Park Pioneer 1953
    2. Lelah Ault - Middle Park Pioneer 1953 Taken from Middle Park Times - September 17, 1953 Mrs. Lelah Ault was born April 24, 1881 at Hanibal, N.Y. and came to Corlorado in April 1883 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, who had taken a homestead on the Blue River17 miles south of Kremmling. Here she grew to young womanhood. Not being a strong child, her father and mother encouraged her to spend much of her time in the great out of doors. Lelah loved to help with the chores around the ranch and learned to ride horse-back very young, going for the milk cows at night and bring in the work horses mornings and going for the mail once a week at the Colorow postoffice, about 7 miles from the ranch. Lelah married Perry Ault, a young Blue River rancher near Dillon and they have lived a busy, quiet, and happy life. Their family consists of six girls and two boys. We all know with a family of 10 members there were hard time and good times and plenty to do but Lelah says she never fretted or worried. She did what she could each day for her family and felt there would be another day. What a blessing to have a disposition like this. Now she and her husband are up in years - she is 72 and Perry is 86 - still busy in their quiet way. He raises a wonderful garden each sunner and finds many other chores to do. While Lelah is happy with her household duties and her flowers, each spring she raises a number of baby chicks for home use. She has 24 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
