Sandi, Thanks for the good thoughts! I wasn't affected much - just a few days of choking on smoky air - shades of the Hayman fire a decade ago. Several of the ladies in my charity quilt group were evacuated. One ended up living with her daughter for 5-6 days. She had a couple days on pre-evac to pack things and thus had the car loaded and her sewing machine (you know, the important things!) in its case by the door. Tuesday the 26th she had a policeman pounding on the door telling her she's under mandatory evacuation and to take her cat (the machine case is about the size of a cat cage) and get out. So now we're calling her sewing machine "the cat". Have heard of a handful of former co-workers at the university who lost their homes but they have the means to rebuild and will. There would have been greater loss if the homeowners in one neighborhood hadn't been so aggressive at fire risk mitigation around their homes. Oh, Pauline, that's a great story about the "the cat"! At least some comfort can still be found in humor! And I definately understand the important things...I knit and crochet, so my needle collection would have to come. I would certainly mourn my yarn stash, but the needles have been handed down and collected all my life, so I would not want to lose them! My husband had a great idea for your friend's "cat". I told him the story and thought that she shoud paint whiskers, eyes and a little nose on the case, but he came up with one better. With her quilting skills, she could design a cover for her machine and give it ears and a tail, etc, so it would become a cat when not in use....(right...like it probably ever stands still, huh!) Well, best of all to ya'll out there. I know that ya'll will come together and do whatever to rebuild. Now we just have to work on making theatres safe again. What a whacko! That was horribly shocking news. Sandi On Tue, Jul 10, 2012 at 3:32 PM, Pauline Drobny <padrobny@yahoo.com> wrote: > Sandi, > > Thanks for the good thoughts!
