I'm kind of the "new-kid-on-the-block" on the CoGenWeb. Still feeling my way around a bit. I've been talking to Gail about Cindy, the lady that volunteered to do transcriptions, being on the list as a volunteer. I feel like it might be a good idea and help out with communication between her and any CC's that might wish to take advantage of her generous offer. Gail said it wasn't allowed. She suggested I take it up with you all. There's nothing in the USGenWeb [ USGW ] against it. The USGW simply states that all CC's have to be on the list. It doesn't address any other volunteers. I feel like allowing those that volunteer for other things than CC might feel more like a "part of the family", as it were. They might at some point feel like even adopting a county if they feel like they are already part of the group. So What's the opinion of the group? Should volunteers other than CC's be allowed on the list? -- “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government lest it come to dominate our lives and interests”. - Patrick Henry - _ _... ..._ _ _._ ._ ..... ._.. ... .._
For what it is worth - I agree with those that think it is not such a good idea. We talk about the business of the COGenWeb and vote on this list. There are times when we have our disagreements and agreements that have absolutely nothing to do with the volunteers who transcribe and donate to our sites. I, too, receive hundreds of email everyday with work and other causes, and don't need to be reading about other issues that don't have anything to do with our "work." I have nothing against a different list for "chat" but just don't have time to wade through email that is not specific to our jobs here.
