Forgot about that one. But the link isn't to weird. "%7E" is the character code for "~". You see it a lot in html coding. That's an example Karen, when we get a new CC or loose a CC or a CC takes on other counties we have to update mega pages instead of just one. Sundee works on one page but then three others [exaggerated] are outdated that we have forgotten about. Gail (My thoughts) The pages in the ~cogenweb directory itself were never split out to different people as I remember. They are pretty static except for three pages with cc info and a subproject "CO Gold Mine." A webmaster that has time to make changes as they happen would be ideal. However more than a single person and alternate would be a case of too many cooks. IMO the Colorado Gold Mine subproject should be split out and published as a full blown COGenWeb project page or entirely removed. As it stands it is long, long out of date. The pages you are probably thinking of that Mary Ann split out are in their own project directories. Betty Baker has ~comilita (Colorado Military). I have ~coplaces (Colorado Places by County). COPhotos (~cophotos) has been lacking a webmaster since Addie quit us. Mary Ann did talk about splitting that one out by county coordinators but we never did. Lee

Contrary to some of the information tossed around so far, I can tell you that a) delayed birth certificates were/are not necessary for social security cards, military enlistments, or jobs. My father-in-law, who died about a year ago, was born in a soddie in Nebraska in 1924, the 9th of 11 kids. He had no birth certificate, but he did all the other stuff that people has said needed some kind of birth certificate. The first time his lack of a birth certificate because an issue was when, after he was in his 60s, he wanted to get a passport to move to Singapore with us. Once he had letters from two of his siblings saying they remembered him being born into the family, he was issued a passport but never did get a birth certificate delayed or otherwise. So it is completely possible to go through life, get social security and medicare/Medicaid, and even get a passport without ever getting any kind of birth certificate. I like it so far, although I haven't have much of a chance to play with it yet. I took the class at Front Range last semester using Dreamweaver 8. It looks pretty exciting though, as they are saying that you can take unflattened Photoshop images into Dreamweaver now and somehow use them on your website. It must have a way of flattening and converting them, but they are saying that if you need to edit them later, you can open the files back up in Photoshop and edit the layers. Seeing will be believing. It certainly is pretty tightly integrated into the CS3 programs. Everything is easier to access and use, including InDesign, and the look and feel of all the programs are more uniform. I paid $589 for the Educational Design Premium version that included, Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop-extended, Illustrator and InDesign. I work for a magazine doing some page layout and ad design, so I really needed the version that had the print programs in it, as well as Dreamweaver. In another week, I'll be deep into the last two weeks of deadlines for our latest issue so won't be around much. I have to say that although most people turn their noses up at FrontPage (I think it is as much an elitist thing as anything, akin to Mac's verses PC's LOL!) I have used that program since version 1.0. I really liked it, especially if I wanted to put something up quick and dirty and still have it look nice. I miss the dynamic hyperlink options in FP, and shared borders in Dreamweaver are a nightmare (at least for me) to try to figure out. FrontPage makes it simple. Dreamweaver has been a real challenge for me, and not one that I, for the most part have enjoyed. Still working with CSS files are much easier in Dreamweaver, once you get the concept. I never could figure them out in FP. I chose to change over to Dreamweaver instead of moving up to Microsoft's new web design version, for several reasons. The main one was that it is the industry standard and several of my web clients only use it. If I want their business, I have to know how to use that program. If I want to attract bigger clients, I have to know that program, and specifically how to write CSS. Dreamweaver makes that a lot easier than FP ever did. The other main reason is that it comes with the Adobe package of programs I need to use for my business. Front Page hasn't been included in most versions of Office now for at least two versions, maybe more. By the way, how do you like Metro State? I am thinking on transferring over there next fall to complete my BA in Non-Profit Admin. I graduate from Front Range in May with my two year degree in graphic design. They added my Dad's name later and he was listed as Baby Meyer born such and such and then they dated it when his name was added. The Social Security form asks for full name, mailing address, age and birthdate, place of birth, father's full name and mother's full maiden name, sex, color or race, business name, have you ever applied before, date and signature and the SS # is on the form. Mine is just a copy so I don't know what is written besides instructions on filling out the form. It doesn't say anything about a birth certificate but if memor serves me right it has to be shown at the time of application. Quite the little pickle I am in, huh? I have no doubt that he had a birth certificate, he was registered with the military, and he had a Social Security Number. Now, growing up, my mother was told that he was the only one of his mother's children that born in a hospital, but now I'm not sure what to think since a birth record has not appeared. In the case of your father, he was listed as Baby Meyer. Did the birth certificate always say that, or was it amended to have his proper name? Would it note somewhere that the name was updated if that was the case? We've been trying our search by using the name he had at his death and what we believe that his name was and have had no success with either. Is Dreamweaver CS3 the latest and greatest? I learned waaaaaaay back on Dreamweaver 3 and now use Dreamweaver MX 2004. (I'm not on Vista.) How is it? I thought about getting a copy since I am still a student with Metro State, but wasn't sure if it was worth it. Good News! Microsoft has recently released SP3 for Microsoft Office 2003, which seems to have fixed some of the more glaring problems with FrontPage and VISTA. Still a few minor annoying issues, but at least FP is usable again for most things. I don't plan on upgrading to one of MS's newer web design programs, I'm learning to use Dreamweaver CS3 (its required for my graphic design degree), and plan on creating all my future sites with it. Certainly not as easy or as intuitive as FP was, but I am starting to beat DW into submission - or is it beating me? At this point, it is hard to tell. <G> Pauli Boulder and Weld
My grandfather was in the military. I was under the impression that the county would have been able to find the delayed birth certificate based on the information that they were provided. I spoke to a very nice woman named Alice from Otero County and she stated that if even one piece of information was wrong, that could impact the results as well. Now I admit that I did not see the local researcher do the work, my mother was very convinced that they tried a number of combinations. Do you think that we need to tell them that it's a delayed birth certificate, or should it not matter? Would the military have asked for a copy to keep, or would the have noted it and given it back? Military would have asked and if he had a job he had to show a birth certificate to sign up for a SS card and if he was retired and received a pension then he had a SS card and had a birth certificate. My uncle had a delayed birth certificate and he had to have it to get into the military. My father just needed a first name added to the county records as he was not named when the Dr. filed the report. So male Baby Meyer had to be changed to his given name. Some of these babies were delivered at home with midwives, some with the help of whoever was available. Charles has accepted county coordinator for Pitkin Co., please remove me from the site and direct all information to him... I am smiling!!! Thank you, Charles! Gail
More than likely your grandfather didn't have a recorded record of birth. That happened a lot of times and usually if one was needed family members or school teachers verified approx age or something was listed in the family Bible. Was your grandfather in the military? He would have had to have a birth certificate if he was and it would have been what they called a delayed birth certificate and that could also be the reason you can't find it. Wills are not always recorded with the county or state. A hand written will with proper signatures is just a valid as one done by an attorney. Gail The cogenweb pages were mostly created by Mary Ann with Acrophobia(sp?). I did the change over and code cleanup last summer for Sundee with Dreamweaver. Don't know what program Sundee has been using since. I had no troubles getting in and up/downloading just now with WS-FTP using last summer's account setup. Lee ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gail Kilgore" <gail.kilgore@gmail.com> Now I get to ask who wrote the state pages? What were they written with, a program or by HTML code manually?
