Gail You already have my position on voting and making a collective decision. It is up to each of us to decide what we are going to do with our counties. It is up to you and Sundee to make a decision on the state pages. Since you distrust our current host, go ahead and mirror the contents of the rootsweb.com/~cogenweb directory. Let us know when you have the pages up and running in a new home so we can change our links before you abandon the existing pages. No matter how this vote goes; my counties and COPlaces are staying in place on Rootsweb until I get some answers to my questions. Then I am leaning toward finding a new host. I asked about setting up the cogenweb.com domain somewhere as a new home and suggested on theusgenweb.org surver if you don't have space or bandwidth. What is your intent there; and what are the chances of our having a home under a COGenWeb banner for us to move into if we want? That will impact my decision. Lee

(As I think it was Lee said,) where each CC puts their pages is an independent decision of the CC. Where the state pages go is an independent decision of the SC. No vote is needed. That said, my pages will remain on my own server as they have been for the last ?10? years. (I can't remember exactly when I started being a CC.) I've never been a fan of Rootsweb, and I would love to see all the state and county pages off of Rootsweb, but I acknowledge that there are those who have enjoyed the tools and support that Rootsweb has given in the past, may be uncomfortable hosting their own pages, or may not have the resources to support paying for their own hosting service. I suppose that if you are going to be on a free web-hosting service, Rootsweb is probably not much worse (if any) than any of the others. I only have one question on the subject. If you move the pages to the server space you have leased, what happens when you are no longer SC or ASC or perhaps no longer affiliated with COGENWEB? Granted this could be several years down the road but would the new SC or ASC have to move everything again? Yes, move your pages. - Personally I do not care where the state pages are domiciled but as you seem to want to move them and from the emails perhaps it is a consensus of the CC's to move them so let it happen. NO - I will most likely not move my county pages at this time, I have several local Historical Society and Genealogy Society pages as well as the GenWeb and as I may not be CC many more years, I would not want someone else to be stuck with my decision. This is somewhat reminicent of the battle that USGenWeb had with Jerry some ten or twelve years ago about the ownership of the USGENWEB.org domain name and regestering it as a non-profit organization. Lets hope we do not have to go through that again. So, what ever you'll decide to do, have fun. It was my thought that the archives was already in the process of moving so there would be no dating mining, This is the whole reason for the moves is to stop the data mining and putting our information behind the wall to sell it on ancestry. The have our information on their servers anyway but a lot of people are not adding info until they get moved and know it is safe from RW/Ancestry. Search engines will pick us up in a couple of days and we will be listed on the USGenWeb site with our new URLS. State sites will be listing new URLS so get ready Scott for changes.
