Hey Scott No matter what I do to update El Paso County with the new stuff it is not working Sundee
I was waiting to hear back on this from Tina and was not ignoring you Karen. Tina did not get back to me. I do know that a CC in IL was removed because of duel logo's and also in IA. We were told by AHGP or whatever they are, you can mirror the site and fly their logo but couldn't fly both logo's and a long time back, it was the same with the USGen... one or the other but not both. You can create a custom Google search, I've not done it yet http://www.google.com/coop/cse/?hl=en There are several options to having rootsweb counters. If you look at most websites our side of ours you will see that nearly none have counters any more. I use http://hitslog.com/ which is the little rectangle image at the bottom of my personal and county sites. It uses a Java script and has a non Java script option to track your pages and gives a lot more information than a plain counter. Others are Google analytics http://www.google.com/analytics/ http://www.google.com/webmasters/ I've also heard of sitemeter and I'm sure there are others. I have an addon to Firefox called no script which blocks unauthorized scripts and one of the ones I block is Google analytics.. They know enough about me as it is, I don't want them tracking my web visits. Just looked at the Hinsdale site and nothing has changed. Nothing on the page says anything about ancestry.com. If you are searching for Hinsdale County, you have to go through the Ancestry web site, but everything seems the same otherwise. I bookmarked it and all I have to do is click on it and it goes directly to Hinsdale County. What am I missing here? That was just another step that TGN/RW was showing that RW is connected to Rootsweb and Ancestry along with all their other little sites and then the banners will direct viewers to their pay-per-view site Ancestry. Jan, if you need help transfering your site let me know, ok... And, something must have happened before my time that you have a Douglas 2 and a Douglas... you must have started a new site instead of using the old site. Don't forget to go to Pico Search or wherever else you have your Search engines for your websites set up and have them re-indexed after you move your sites. The same would apply to your SiteMeter or other counters. Some of you may still be using the old Rootsweb counter. Those won't work anymore. Anyone still using the Rootsweb Guestbook?? ____________________________________ Betty Baker Shadywood Quilts Cypress, TX (NW Houston) www.ShadywoodQuilts.com/ www.TShirtQuiltsTX.com/ My eBay Store My Blog
Ok I have done Alamosa's roots web site, I suggest you do something similar with yours so people can find your new address. http://www.rootsweb.com/~coalamos/ I made 1 page, uploaded it, renamed it to the same name as one of the other pages and repeated the process until I had a page for each of the old ones. (I deleted all the old site first) So there are pages for each of the original pages that all send you to the new site. There are not a lot of pages on the Alamosa site, if you have a bigger site you might just want to do the main pages. I uploaded a some changes to cogen web and I see several new counties in the directory. No one has told me they have moved.. Let me know when you get them up so I can change the links on the state pages. If you post it here the adjoining counties to your should also see it and make the changes, I will see it also. If you want a county on cogenweb.com let Gail know and she will let us know to set it up. All you will need is the FTP information for the county which we will give you and then you can upload it. Let me know the new url when you have it up, leave a page on the old site telling every one your moved and then you should be all set. If your pages are pretty simple and just have links to the other pages like queries.htm and not the full address rootweb.com/~alamosa/queries.htm then the pages will work in what ever directory they are in with out changes. If you can navigate the site on your local hard drive it should work with out change on a new server.
