    1. [COGEN] February Check-in
    2. Billie Walsh
    3. Well, here it is the first of February already. I hope everyone is having good weather. I can't hardly believe it's this time of year and the weather is good enough here in central Oklahoma to wear shorts. Never would-a-thunk-it as they say. Anyway, it's time for the February mandatory check-ins. Really appreciate all your hard work. -- “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government lest it come to dominate our lives and interests”. - Patrick Henry - _ _... ..._ _ _._ ._ ..... ._.. ... .._

    3. Cynthia, Have you explored the differences between Fan Pages and Groups on FB? I first made my Adams County, OH page a fan page, but several people expressed the wish that it was a group, saying that a group was easier to find on FB. I ended up moving it over to a group since that was what the majority seemed to want. I like the Fan Page idea, more stats, options, and you can create a widget to embed on your website. If I had my druthers, I would have left it a Fan Page. What is your preference? 3. I have two counties, one in Ohio and one in Kentucky, that also have FB groups. The Lewis County one has about 150 people in it now and is growing steadily. I didn't start it nor do I manage it, but I am active in it. I started the Adams County group last week. So far, I only have 18 people, but it is really early. I was thinking that if it turned out to be as successful as the Lewis County, KY FB group, that I would consider doing it for my Boulder and Weld county pages here in Colorado. Personally, I think it is a great idea. I now have any number of folks looking for and contributing items for my Lewis County, KY pages. I expect that the same will eventually happen with Adams County, OH as well. 3. I did a search last night but didn't post the information that I found because all I could find was info on the son, John S. Mc Coy who was more than likely married in Mohave Co., Arizona. I have the Colorado marriages and George and Edith are not listed on the CD. I know that the CD is not complete. I think I did find a George in CA. The son was working as a cow puncher for the Diamond ??? Ranch and the ranch was owned by a Duncan and John married the daughter and died in CA. I just figured anything that I had found was not important as I also found family trees and the parents weren't listed in there. It would be interesting to find out where this man's mother was born and that would tell us if they stayed around the Denver area or was there on their way to some place else when the son was born. 3. This may be one of those "dead-end" problems which will be difficult to resolve. I checked the 1880, 1885 CO census, and the 1900 census with no matches with the information provided. There were McCoy's in Jefferson Co., but I could not find anything to indicate this was the same family. Of course with censuses, it's going to depend on what was given as a name, what was listed as a birth place by the person providing the information, what the indexer transcribed it as, etc. If you haven't already sent a reply, my recommendation to tell him is that in a preliminary search you have turned up nothing to indicate his family was in Jefferson County. You might ask him his source for the marriage. We have the Colorado Marriage CD at my local genealogy society here in SW Washington, I can look at it on Thursday when I am there. That might at least give a clue to a starting place to look. Looking in new family search I found a John "Butterick" McCoy born in 1826. His last child born was a George W.
