Turns out it was in Canon City in 1911. Further digging resulted in finding out that his father (my grandfather) and three of his brothers are all buried in the Cotopaxi Cemetery. The three brothers all died in 1913 of scarlet fever I believe. My father was only two years old at that time but managed to survive. My grandfather died in 1916 in Canon City as well. Someone in the family has erected a monument in the cemetery listing Roy Deeds (my grandfather) 1874-1916, Ernie Deeds 1902-1913, Bryant Deeds 1904-1913, Wyatt Deeds 1908-1913 (all of whom would have been my uncles). I obtained this information from a transcription of the Cotopaxi Cemetery posted on one of the genealogical websites, but a mystery about that transcription is haunting me. In that same area of cemetery plots is listed an Emma Deeds 1911- and nothing more. She does not appear on the monument. I suspect that she may have been a twin to my father (also born in 1911) and she may have died in infancy. A further clue is that my great grandmother's name was Emma (Emily), but I know that she was alive in 1911 because she is listed in the 1920 census as living with my grandfather's brother, Phillip Ross Deeds in Palisade, Mesa County, Colorado. I am planning to drive from California to Colorado with my youngest daughter in early October of this year and we will definitely be visiting the Cotopaxi Cemetery to take photos and, if necessary, do some cleaning up around the family headstones. We will probably make Canon City our home base during our stay and make short trips from there. Two other branches of my family were also settled in that same general area of Colorado. Surnames: Cessna and Vipond. If you happen to know where I can obtain actual burial records of the Cotopaxi Cemetery prior to my trip, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you - especially any advice you have to offer regarding our research while back there. I am finally fully retired and living in the Sacramento area of California, but our trip will pretty much be limited to just under two weeks since my daughter will have to return to work. I will be willing to exchange actual email addresses with you if you are so inclined. There is so much more that I don't know and would like to find out. Thanks and best regards, Roy Deeds.
