I am looking for information about my g-g-g grandfather, James Sullivan. According to his burial record at Greenwood Pioneer Cemetery in Fremont County, Colorado (as well as the Colorado State Archives) he was a member of the 34th Ohio Infantry, Company G. Enlisted 20May1862, discharged 15July1865. It also said that he was a member of the Colorado National Guard. He died August 10, 1897 in Colorado. The problem is that I am unable to find him on any lists of soldiers in that regiment. There are too many other James Sullivan's to determine which one he might be. The other problem is that he lived in Indiana in 1862 (he was born in Indiana in 1825), so why would he have served for Ohio. I am unfamiliar with the enlistment process of the time, so any help with this query would be appreciated. I want to try and order his records from NARA, but I have to make sure I am ordering the right ones. Can anyone help???
