He must have preformed many marriages and funerals during his time there. He also held services at mines in the Huerfano Cty area. His wife's name was Ann. She must have been active in the church also. Does anyone have any info on what church and anything else he or his wife may have done in Canon City? Any information would be appreciated.

I have a letter of recommendation for him but it is dated January of 1910 so it is possible he had already left the area by the time the census was done. He also had a sister in this area who lived there in 1905. Her name was Bessie Inez Grove and she married Ernest Polhemus in Canon City on June 28, 1905. Vernon had four other brothers and sisters but I am unsure if they lived in Colorado or not. Their names were Vivian Lee, Cecil Ray, Dora Marie and Alice Beatrice Grove. Any help placing them in this location would be appreciated. Sincerely, Kathleen Grove Leveroni

I can find no reference to my grandfather living in this area, although his sister, Bessie Inez Grove married Ernest Polhemus in 1905 in Canyon City. Thanks for any hints of where to go from here. I am also wondering if anyone knows how to go about contacting whoever is in charge of the Union Highland Cemetery in Florence? My gr-grandfather was Walter George Butren (b.27 Jun 1893, d.23 Oct 1969) and his last known residence (according to the SSDI) was Canon City. I also found that he is buried in Union Highland Cemetery (block 68, record 6473). I'm not sure if he would have even had an obituary (he left Chicago in the 40s and our family never heard from him again) but I would like to try to find out. I appreciate any help that can be given. I'm currently located in RI so I have a hard time accessing records. Thanks in advance, Best Wishes, Melinda A. Gardiner microdoll411@cox.net

Hi everyone - I'm looking for death information for my wife's grandfather. Gideon Lyman FRIEND, Jr. I have him on the 1930 census and was told that he died in Canon City, but no one living know the date. I had heard that he was a prison guard and was killed by a prisoner, but that's all the information that I have. Can anyone help me with this? Is there any way to look up death information with only the name? I know in Maryland, there is a way but you have to go to the state archives. Thanks, Marty ( in Maryland )
