I am researching my EVANS family. My great grandfather was John EVANS married to Emma TUCK EVANS. I know he was a member of the Oddfellows in Coal Creek. I have been having trouble finding out much about him so I have turned to his brother Thomas EVANS married to Mahalah EVANS. They have a son Richard EVANS married to Susannah J. JESSOP EVANS. They lived in Coal Creek. Thomas was a miner, he worked in the coal mines. Richard was a state senator.I believe it was for only one term. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it. I do know they came from Wales to Ohio then to Colorado. They were in Ohio on the 1880 census, I found them on the 1910 census in Colorado. Needless to say, I haven't checked the Fremont County queries in quite some time...moving, settling into a new job, etc., have taken up a great deal of energy. Anyway, I was awfully surprised and pleased to see a reply regarding the maternal side of my family. I do have records regarding the introduction of Nettie Opal Nash into the Witherspoon family through her marriage to John Robert Witherspoon. My mother fondly refers to him as simply "Uncle Bob." And, my mother also remembers some of the Nash family including Nettie Opal Nash as she used to visit the Witherspoons while spending summers with her grandparents, Charlie and Fannie (Witherspoon) Beckham. She does have a few photos of the Beckham homestead, her grandmother and grandfather, etc., which I would be most happy to scan and send to you. In a recent conversation with her, she also menntioned the name David Nash whom she believed at one time actually took over the Witherspoon Ranch. True or not, I assume you must be related to him as well. My sister and I are planning a trip to Colorado sometime this summer to visit my daughter who's a ski fanatic and living near Breckenridge. Ann and I would also like to spend time in the Canon City vicinity visiting our ancestors places. I know the ranch is somewhere near Guffey although I am unsure where that might be located. If you know of anybody I could contact, I'd certainly appreciate the information. We not only have Hiram and Kate Witherspoon as great-great grandparents, but great-great grandparents on my maternal grandmother's side also buried in Florence. So, the cemeteries are full of relatives!!! Unfortunately, my mother and a great aunt, one of Charlie and Fannie's daughters, and Bill Black (Marian Beckham Black's son) are the only surviving family members directly related to the Witherspoons and Beckhams. Would so much like to hear from you. Sorry for the delay in a reply...just busy. Sarah was my great-great-grandmother's sister. I have been researching this family today on the 1920 and 1930 censuses as they used to not be available when I was working on it before. Sarah Calvert was the daughter of Permelia Skelton and Milford Calvert of Washington Co, Ark. Milford died aft 1870 and Permelia took the younger, unmarried children and moved to Cherry Creek, Fremont co, Colo. Other names of girls were: Ward and Brock who mainly stayed in Ark, but some of Permelia's grandkids did live in Canon City. My great-great-grandmother was Mary Elizabeth (Calvert) Brock who died while visiting Canon City and is buried beside her mother Permelia Calvert. Will exchange info. I have not traced David Goodnight back to his roots, but will look into that.

Is there anyone on the list with access to marriage records from 1876 to 1896. I am looking for a marriage for Eliza Ann Franklin (Annie) to a Robson. This would be a second marriage for Annie and would have taken place before 1996. Any help would be much appreciated. Esther

I appeciate your emails and am sorry it has taken this long to establish communication. In reviewing our ancestral lines, it appears we might be connected via the marriage of "Bob" Witherspoon and Nettie Opal Nelson, both of whom my mother remembers. Bob was married once and had a daughter, Winnifred, from that union. She died as a young woman (apparently a suicide). He then remarried Nettie Opal. My mother remembers both "Bob" and "Will"...my grandfather's uncles (my great-grandmother's, Francis, brothers). Nettie and Bob had two daughters, Marion and Margaret. Marion died in 1998 and is buried at the Witherspoon Cemetary while Margaret is buried in Canon City, having passed away in 1962. My mom has pictures stored in a box in her linen closet in Montana. I would certainly love to exchange photos. I am uncertain whether or not there are any of Hiram and Kate. But plenty of other pictures. Sorry about the lapse in contact. Hope this gets to you. Kath
