Chris, So glad to hear from you. My great grandfather William Coe was born in Baltimore December 5, 1836, and came here to Ohio with his father about 1850. We've been here since. Back in 1979 I became curious about the family's origins and began asking my father questions. He knew nothing. He did not know his grandparents names or anything about them. This made me all the more curious. I started asking his older siblings questions, and found the name of their grandparents and where they lived. One thing led to another and I've been at this now for nineteen years. I've collected an incredible database of Coe information, including 17,542 census entries, 6933 deaths, 9022 marriages, and 6206 births. I've managed to locate early immigrant ancestors of many Southern Coe families and have developed extensive biographies of many early Coes. All this is to be published in a book titled "The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia." With my great grandfather having come from Baltimore, much of my research has been centered in that region. My search of Sylvester "Weston" Coe resulted from estate records uncovered at the Baltimore County courthouse in Towson. The records were rather vague and it may have been September 1870 when he died. The cause was stated as typhoid fever. There was a surprising amount of family material in the records. Where did you find him listed as "Weston." I suspect it may have been a nickname or a spelling corruption of Vester. I have sought diligently for information on his sons Jarrett Gardner and John Thomas. Daughter Katherine was not mentioned in the estate records. I often wondered if the widow and children had not gone with Juliet Ann (Eaton) Coe, who moved to Hancock County, OH, after Sylvester's father's death. I went through public records at the Hancock County courthouse in Findlay, but found nothing. She married (2) June 15, 1852, David Sampson.
