Hi, I am new to this list and I'm searching for information on John H. COEY-COAY. He was born in 1818 in Ross Co., OH; he died Mar 1894 in Emery, Macon Co., IL. My family has used the spelling COAY since John H. According to my father, Howard G. Coay, a great grandson of John Coey, John Coey was killed in the Civil War. His gravestone was mistakenly engraved as John Coay and his widow could not get her widow's pension unless she registered under the name "Coay."
