Elizabeth Coe, as you know, was married May 27, 1829, in McMinn County, TN, to Moses Casey, b. 1810 in Roane County, TN, son of Ambler and Polly (Ellison) Casey. They are listed in the 1830 and 1840 censuses of McMinn County. Evidence suggests that she is the daughter of Stephen Coe of McMinn County, the only member of the Coe family to appear in East Tennessee in the early 1800s. On June 5, 1826, the court of McMinn County appropriated $40 for his maintenance. Prior to moving to McMinn County, he lived in Roane County, TN, where the county annually set aside $20 for his support. He obviously lived a life of limited means, and may have been disabled. You state that there was a seventeen-year age difference between Elizabeth and Martha Coe. How did you arrive at the age difference? Martha died in July 1846 in Newton County, AR, and I'm unaware of any document giving her date of birth. Based on her marriage of April 4, 1817, in Roane County, TN, to Jesse E. Casey, b. 1797, son of Jesse Casey, who was also the father of Ambler Casey, her birth would most likely have been around 1800. You may also be aware of Elizabeth and Martha Coe's sister Mary, b. 1802, who married Solomon Snow, b. 1798. She also died in Newton County, AR. I believe they had another sister Nancy Coe, who maried George Dugan and lived in McMinn County, TN. You are also likely aware of their brothers Wesley Allen Coe, b. 1809, who married Rebecca Ellison and lived in McMinn and Bradley Counties, TN, and Vincent Coe, b. about 1812, who lived in McMinn and Polk Counties, TN. You note that you found Elizabeth in the 1880 census of Newton County, AR. What age is given for her? As a descendant, you must be familiar with her children. Do you know their names and years of birth? Anything you could help with in this regard would be greatly appreciated. I hope this is helpful. Please don't hesititate to contact me if you feel I can be of further assistance. Carl Robert Coe
