Chris, Thanks for the information. It's extremely helpful and much appreciated. With what you sent, I was able to locate John Thomas Coe in the 1900 Census of St. Clair County, IL, living at 1224 Rock Road, East Saint Louis. An Edward McDade, b. Jan. 1879, was living with the family at the time. Thomas Coe was born about 1800. On September 22, 1835, he purchased from Nicholas Low part of "The Road Tract" on the east side of the York Road, in New Market, MD--now Maryland Line, MD. He also owned part of "Lawson's Pleasant Hill" on the west side of the York Road in New Market. York Road of course is the road that runs from Baltimore to York, PA. It appears likely that Thomas was a son of William and Hannah (Barber) Coe of Baltimore County. I say likely because of the lack of records on this family. There were very few Coes in Baltimore County in the early 1800s. Just two families of which I'm aware. William and Hannah Coe's children settled in the same area as Thomas. And there were many of them. I have identified nine children, including James and Joshua Coe who lived at Cub Hill on the York Road. It's an interesting family with many stories and a number of descendants. Juliet Ann Coe, born in 1820, was the daughter of Lemuel Eaton. I don't know a great deal about them other than Lemuel was a farmer born 1790 in Maryland. He lived in the 2nd District of Baltimore County, near the families of William and Hannah (Barber) Coe. Juliet had a sister Mary born in 1826. Susan fell from the face of the earth with Sylvester. I have been able to find nothing of her after she moved to Schuylkill County, PA. By the way, William Coe, who I believe was Thomas' father, was born about 1762 in Baltimore County, son of another William Coe who served in the American Revolution from Baltimore County. He died in 1782 leaving a large family. William and Hannah Coe lived on the York Road, near the Great Gunpowder River. They were married January 31, 1791, at the First Baptist Church in Baltimore. How did you come to know Sylvester as Weston Coe? Was this the name passed down through the family? Please tell me more about John Thomas Coe's son Louis Sylvester. Are you in contact with Louis's descendants? Do you have birth dates for John Thomas's children? I have seven listed. Were there others? I hope this is helpful. I will be more than happy to share whatever additional information you'd like to know. Carl Robert Coe
