And to add to the confusion, the other William A. Coe, who enlisted May 5, 1862, in Tallapoosa, AL, with Company F, 46th Alabama Infantry, CSA, was captured May 1, 1863, at Port Gibson, MS. Paroled from the military prison at Alton, IL, he was captured again August 22, 1863. Sent to Fort McHenry, Baltimore, MD, where he was held as a prisoner of war, after several months in prison, he too switched sides and joined the Union Army, January 25, 1864. He was released at Point Lookout, MD, immediately afterward. I'm not sure of the identity of this other William Coe. William A. and D.K. (Ransom) Coe's son William, b. 1836 in Alabama, enlisted at Natchitoches, LA, May 6, 1862, with Company B, 11th Battalion, Louisiana Infantry, Confederate Army. His brother Ransom Coe enlisted on the same day with the same company. Company B. was later consolidated with Company K, Crescent Regiment. Admitted to the hospital at Shreveport, LA, August 11, 1864, on August 16 he was transferred to Natchitoches. Paroled June 10, 1865, he later lived at Natchitoches and in Red River Parish where he had acquired a 320 farm, October 1 , 1860. It appears that he is the William Coe listed with a large family in the 1880 census of Bossier Parish, LA. I will keep you posted on progress. Carl Robert Coe
