LORI: maria fontana is listed as one of the children of samuel daniel coe and lydia hamlin. lydia was born 6 march 1813 and d. 9 june 1854, dau. of gershom hamlin of portland, maine. she is listed in the coe book as fontania m. coe, born 15 july 1848. she was the 7th of 10 children. there is no further info on this lady since all the author did was follow the men. samuel daniel died march 26, 1889. he died at elkhart, ill. your line starts with samuel daniel coe and goes back this a'way: alexander; daniel; lt. samuel; capt. john; and then to robt. the puritan. from robt. the puritan it goes: robert; henry; john coo; john coo; john coo; thomas coo; john coo; john coo; and finally to john coo of gestingthorpe b. 1340 in essex, england and d. ca-1415 in england. all of this is from the coe book and what research i have done on this line in england it seems to be accurate. gary in oregon

i must apologize to the list for an error. when i listed the wife of henry coo/coe i also stated he was the father of robert coe, puritan. this is incorrect. the son of henry was a robert but he married three times. first to mary ???? [my line] and then he married twice more and i believe firstly to hannah dearslay then to jane rouse. this robert and mary were the parents of robert coe, also known as "the puritan". sorry for the mis-information but certainly was not intentional. gary in oregon

James Coe, born 1769 Ipswich England apparently lived in Beaufort, Carolina with his family where they owned "estates or plantations". after the the war of Independance they "lost their land as they remained loyal to the King" James moved to the Caribbean (no idea where others went or if they stayed put) anyone know about this family? Rhona
i would imagine that some on this list already know this but today i found a name that i would like pass along for anyone who descends from robert coe, puritan. i have always known his mother's name was mary but i found that her last name appears to be vincent. her fathers name was andrew and he married alice ????. andrew's father was nicholas. the family is from bildeston, suffolk, england and the info that i have comes from two sources. suffolk co. probate records and suffolk co. parish records. andrew vincent and alice had andrew; nicholas; alice; susanne; brigett; joan; mary; and elizabeth. i have not checked the records set down by the author but he is very respectable and until i or someone else checks these records i am happy with what i found. roberts father was henry coo/coe. his wife mary was bp. 13 jan. 1565/6; m. 21 sept. 1587 at bildeston. henry was buried 28 jan. 1630/1 and mary was buried on 20 oct. 1631, both in boxford. the name of the book where this is to be found is: "50 great migration colonists to new england and their origins" by john brooks threlfall. book dated 1990. this is a great book on these 50 and their families and some of their ancestors. gary in oregon

Steve, I've lost my Coe folder but I believe Vincent died before 1850 and his wife Sarah and family are living in Bradley Co., TN in 1850. Will search for my folder again tonight and get back to you when I find it. I know it's somewhere in this genealogy room - probably under all the Foshee "stuff" I took to the reunion. VANDA: this family is in the coe book. shows hannah m. _____ leonard of dansville, n.y. hannah's parents were rev. chester seymour, b. ca-1804 and was a baptist minister in n.y. state. he m. hannah gorton dau. of benjamin and rachel [wolcott] gorton of corning, steuben co., n.y. chester's parents were aaron coe and one of the two wives. doesn't say which one. married first, may 13 1787 sevilla [or scarvilla] bishop and m. second to anna bunker. sorry i should have read further. all the children were by his first marriage. anyway aaron's line goes: aaron; capt. aaron; ephraim; capt. john; robert; robert, the puritan. this book takes this family back to 1340 with very good sources. the book is called: robert coe, puritan and is by j.g. bartlett. the coe line is mine also but we split at robert the puritan. gary in oregon
