    3. good morning. my name is john taylor coe and i'm fairly new to this listserv. however, i was thrilled to find it and am hopeful that someone out there can help me trace my ancestors back into the darker recesses of time... to date i'm able to trace my lineage as follows: john taylor coe b.1966 john ellis coe b 1940 percy ellis coe b. 1915 percy taylor coe samuel taylor coe john william coe samuel coe b. 1786 elijah coe b. 1757 abel coe b. 1727 joseph coe b. 1686 john coe b. 1658 robert coe II b. 1627 robert coe b. 1596 i'm fairly confident that i've got this line correct as per my family's records... my curiosity is this: i was able to id some records that indicated that my ancenstors go back to essex, england and are decendants of a john coo b. 1375... my wife (lisa) and i are travelling to the uk this summer and are eager to explore some of my family's history in that country but i have been unable to-date to connect my ancestors in north america with those in the uk. any assistance in this regard would be really swell! additionally, as we will be travelling to the highlands of scotland, i'm curious to find if there is any connection between the coe (coo) lineage and the town glencoe, scotland and the river coe. thx in advance to any and all who have this info. -- johncoe /\ o_ /^^\/\/\ -'/= /\ _/^^^^\^\_\_()\/()__/^^\___ "Let our people travel light and free on their bicycles." -- Edward Abbey

    2. Oh, John, I am so sorry. This is my public apology. I guess it is difficult to use humor on the lists. Truely, I meant to be actually agreeing with you and trying to express my frustrations with humor. My niece once said to me, "there are 10,000 unemployed comedians, and you think you are FUNNY." The wisdom of youth. Please excuse me, I really feel dreadful that you are feeling badly. Genealogy is frustrating, and it sure ought to be enjoyable. Phoebe

    3. I apologise if this offends, but humor is the only way I can cope with this situation. Having consulted 3 (that's right, 3) of the experts on this list, I have comte to the conclusion that my mother-in-law is either a nightmare or a demon! Her grandfather DOES NOT EXIST! Washington Jonah Coe was married in 1883 in Platte Missouri. This is confirmed in the HFC records. He and his wife Hattie had 5 Children, then disappeared. The children were born in Kansas City Missouri, and according to their Grandaughter, my mother-in-law, they died there. However, the State of Missouri hasno death Certificates. Kansas wanted $ 25 each to even look, so maybe after the tax refund (though more likely I'll buy propane). So unless one of the documented Coes had a child they aren't talking about--born on the wrong side of the blanket?--they must have been either demons or aliens. Sorry for the triviality, but I was getting depressed about this situation, and needed to vent. ===== Debby Pittsburg, Kansas, USA Leolady@cpol.net DebEpperly@yahoo.com http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/1562/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. L.A. Roberts
    3. Good Evening, I am responding to the request for descendents of Oliver Coe and Mary Agard. I am one such person and I am happy to provide what information I have. Oliver and Mary produced - Abner 1763, Oliver 1764, Mary 1766, Justus 1767, Mary 1769, Job 1772, and James 1774 Abner (1763) married Mary Ledyard in 1784 and produced - Anson 27 May 1801 Anson (1801) married Diadama (unk) about 1830 (I have her first name from Census records but the spelling is in question) and produced - Pulaski 1831, John 1833, Napoleon 1834, Chester 1836, Hollis 1838, Wallace 1839, Hellen 1842, and Wealthy 1846. The 1850 Census locates this family unit in Lake County Ohio. There may have been one brother older than Pulaski, Pulaski (1831) marries Eleanor Virginia Beers about 1860 and produced - Alma B. 1861, Wealthy Alice 1864, Bertha May 1866, Gertrude 1869, and William 1890 (Note that William may be by a second wife). Pulaski is located in Steuben County Indiana during the 1870 Census, and in Oceana County Michigan during the 1900 Census. Bertha May (1866 aka. Lizzie) marries Ephriam Hedglin about 1882 and produced - Henry Arthur Hedglin 1/5/1883, and Chester Hedglin 5/21/1955. Henry Arthur Hedglin (1833) marries Emma Lucile Stayner 5/17/1906 and produced - Orpha Lucile, Doris, Wayne Perry, Roberta Ellan, Oliver Winn, Henrietta Murl, Charles Frank, Raymond, Lorraine, and Max. Lorraine is my mother and the last of the girls still alive. All the brothers are still living. I am able to provide most of the family that descends from Ephriam and Lizzie. 2. JO: these people of yours are also in the book. they are in the back under Misc. Coes since no one seems to know what to do with them. there is only two pages on this family but it does give a nice blurb on mathew and his wife elizabeth who was the dau. of thomas and eliz. wakley. there is a paragraph on sarah who m. joseph ingersoll. jos. was the son of george and elizabeth ingersoll. its lists their children as martha, stephen, john, benjamin, joseph and hannah. the name of this book is: ROBERT COE, PURITAN, HIS ANC. AND DESCENDANTS 1340 TO 1910, BY J. GARDNER BARTLETT. this book was published in 1911 and the one i have is one of the originals. it is kind of falling to pieces. i have seen this book many times at higginson, and NEHGS. i am sure other gene. book centers carry it also. except for the last part of the book, it deals only with robt. coe, his ancestors and descendants so you may or may not want to buy it. last time i saw it i think it was just under 100.00. if all you want is the info on mathew and his family i would be happy to copy these pages and send them to you. i would need a mailing address. i have heard from many, many people on this book and the general concensus of opinion seems to be that SOMEHOW all these people are probably related but after all this time you would think someone would have found a connection. i noticed at the bottom of one of the pages is a para. stating that a gentlman did the gene. on this family. it is by henry f. coe and he published in 1894 a small 47 page genealogy of this coe family. his descent from mathew is different from yours but i have no clue what he may have found on mathew and his children. this one would probably be difficult if not impossible to find. good luck and happy hunting. let me know if i can help in any way. gary in oregon
