I am lurking, hoping that I may discover an Emma Coe in someone's family. She may have been born in the time frame of 1820 or thereabouts! Gary, Ok, that explains alot! I had no idea that he had a second wife which explains why I only these 4 children. Thank you for explaining this! John
Hi Gary, well Merriel figured out that somehow these supposed children of Sally & John are actually her siblings! LOL, dont know how that happened. This file came to me this way and it was confusing me to no end! Ok, 13 children... are they all listed by chance? I only have 4 children listed for Simeon Coe and Betsey Ann Johnson. Thanks! John
Merriel, Hmmm, now that sounds like a possibility! I got this file that way and just couldnt figure it out...it looked odd enough! I bet your right . John, Do you have any idea where these folks were? Where did you see the info to indicate that the children's names are COE? Phoebe, Not sure where Sally Coe was from. I beleive her parents were: Simeon Coe and Betsey Ann Johnson. My guess is that she was from Ct or NY. This gets confusing as I have Coe's in both my birth family and adopted family genealogies. John
JOHN: they are: alexander,. betsey, sally, nancy, simeon, charilla, harriet, avis, phebe, calvin, ambrose, andrew a., lorinda. first 4 are by the first wife of simeon and the last 9 are children by his second wife, roxy l. ellsworth. this line, which is not mine goes from sally to simeon to andrew to john, to andrew, to john the immigrant. the book has 7 pages from the immigrant to sally. gary in oregon
Hello Everyone, Looking for information about Sally Coe b. Mar. 21,1793 and married John Sweet. I have 3 children listed but all 3 have the surname of Coe which makes me think that Sally may have been married before marrying John Sweet and she may not have actually been a Coe. The children are: Alexander Coe, Betsey Coe, Nancy Coe. Thank you, John
according to the coe book, simeon and betsey ann [johnson] were the parents of 13 children of which sally was number 3 and it says she married john sweet. this info is under misc. coes in the book and under the heading: john coe of stamford, greenwich, and rye, and some of his descendants. this john coe who was the immigrant for this family was born in england as early as 1622. gary in oregon
John, did you perhaps get Sally's younger siblings somehow listed as her children? Looks like the same names, Alexander, Betsey, and Nancy Coe which I have listed as Sally Coe Sweet's younger brother and sisters all by Simeon Coe's first wife....Merriel
Deqr John, Where was Sally Coe?? Thank you, Phoebe
Hi, I'm Chris Coey; this is the first message I've posted to this ng, and I'm basically just looking for some background info on my last name. I've received some conflicting information in the past--looking at my local library has told me that the name is a derivative of Cowie, which is the name of a town in both Scotland and Ireland, respectively. A couple of online sources have suggested this as well, but several other linked it to the Coe name, and that's why I'm on this mailing list. Anyone out there with more information?? Dear Folks, I saw this on the LI List and got permission from the person who submitted it to forward it on to this list. Perhaps most of you have seen it. If I recall, it is assumed that this John Coe left no children, but the will is useful for establishing relationships. The Deborah Kniffen comment below, was made by the person who submitted the will. I have never seen that before, perhaps one of you will confirm or deny that for the rest of us.
