    2. Phoebe, Not sure where Sally Coe was from. I beleive her parents were: Simeon Coe and Betsey Ann Johnson. My guess is that she was from Ct or NY. This gets confusing as I have Coe's in both my birth family and adopted family genealogies. John

    2. Hello Everyone, Looking for information about Sally Coe b. Mar. 21,1793 and married John Sweet. I have 3 children listed but all 3 have the surname of Coe which makes me think that Sally may have been married before marrying John Sweet and she may not have actually been a Coe. The children are: Alexander Coe, Betsey Coe, Nancy Coe. Thank you, John

    2. according to the coe book, simeon and betsey ann [johnson] were the parents of 13 children of which sally was number 3 and it says she married john sweet. this info is under misc. coes in the book and under the heading: john coe of stamford, greenwich, and rye, and some of his descendants. this john coe who was the immigrant for this family was born in england as early as 1622. gary in oregon

    2. Christopher Coey
    3. Hi, I'm Chris Coey; this is the first message I've posted to this ng, and I'm basically just looking for some background info on my last name. I've received some conflicting information in the past--looking at my local library has told me that the name is a derivative of Cowie, which is the name of a town in both Scotland and Ireland, respectively. A couple of online sources have suggested this as well, but several other linked it to the Coe name, and that's why I'm on this mailing list. Anyone out there with more information?? 1. [COE-L] John Coe Will, Newtown, Queens Co NY, 1735
    2. Dear Folks, I saw this on the LI List and got permission from the person who submitted it to forward it on to this list. Perhaps most of you have seen it. If I recall, it is assumed that this John Coe left no children, but the will is useful for establishing relationships. The Deborah Kniffen comment below, was made by the person who submitted the will. I have never seen that before, perhaps one of you will confirm or deny that for the rest of us. Sorry about the untidy format. Phoebe "Don't know too much about this one. I believe his mother was Deborah Knif= fen."
