Hello, I am looking for families of William Coe and Charlotte Dare from Essex, England around 1852. They had a son Charles 1852 i believe who came to Australia 1874. Thanks Lynn Coe Australia
Hello Peggy, Nice to hear from you again. I would love to get the info on Elias and Hannah Tyron Coe. I have no info either on a Susan Coe Ives. I have used a lot of the correct ways that you sent to put the info into my files and I want to thank you for them. They do make things a lot easier when it is done right. I'm trying to help some other people on certain things from the book. At first I typed it into a message and sent it, then I got to thinking that it was pretty silly to type it twice,so now I put it into the computer and then send e-mail or snail-mail a copy of it. At least that way it's in my file. Talk to you later Jack Peggy Chapman wrote: > > Elias and Hannah Tryon Coe are also my ancestors. I can't find what I am looking for. Drat. What I remember are two stories about two separate Robert's. One spent about a lifetime in prison for his religious beliefs and was released prior to dying. Really had a miserable existence, but stuck to his beliefs. The other committed murder either while in prison or when he was being robbed, and was executed the hard way. I'll keep looking. Mary, you have given me hope! And a general area where I might start a new search. Thank you very much! Carolyn >, but I don't > have all the descendants. There were Coes in Pennsylvania. They were supposed to be among the founders of the town of Jamaica, Long Island,New York, in 1658 where they were for a couple of generations when Joseph Coe, (son of Benjamin who was youngest son of Robert who came from England) sold his holdings in Jamaica and moved to Hanover, New Jersey in about 1720. In 1733 he and others withdrew from the Hanover Presbyterian Church and formed a new church in nearby Morristown. His second son, Benjamin, born in Jamaica abt 1709 and in Hanover in 1720, was transferred on Sept 12, 1777 from the Morristown Presbyterian Church to the Redstone Presbytery in Westmoreland (now Fayette) County, Penn. After the Revolutionary War he crossed the Allegheny Mountains and built a stockade on the river about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh near the present town of Tarentum that was called Coe's Station. He lived there until his death, sometime after 1790. His wife was Rachel Prudden and they had 14 children: Ebenezer, born 1736, died 1827 in Ohio; Abigail, born abt 1738; Sarah, born 1739, died 1762; Philip, born 1742, died 1818; Phebe, born 1743; Patience, born 1745; Uzal (a son), born 1747, died 1784; Benjamin, born abt 1748, died 1833 at Coe's Station; Moses, born 1753, died 1813, lived in Washington Co., Penn.; Peter, born 1753 and died 1813; Patience, born 1755; Rachel, born 1757; Jane, born 1759; and Elizabeth, born abt 1761 and died 1847. Benjamin married Margaret Beigle or Beagle and they had 9 children. I don't see the name 'Emma' in the family, but I don't have all the descendants. As you can see there was a fairly substantial Coe family in Western Pennsylvania. At least several of these moved on into Ohio and Indiana. Good luck with your research. Thurley, I wish that I could help you. Those name are not familiar to me. Good luck in your search, Shelley
Without much hope I will post my search for Emma Coe, birthdate estimated to be 1820's, her daughter was born in 1850 or 1852 in Crawford Co. Ohio. I do not find them in any census there, or anywhere! She was married to James Hoadley supposedly born in Maryland. The little information I have comes from their daughter Emily Ann's death certificate. Some one already looked for her in the Coe Book (Robert Coe line, I think) no luck. Does anyone on this list have ANY Coes living in Pennsylvania in the 1820's or 1830's?? At this point I would be happy to find there were any Coes there at that time, and could perhaps use the location as a clue for a place to start. So would you check your Coe inventory for that place and time, and let me know where in PA yours were located? Thanks so much. Before my computer crashed yesterday I found a Coe using the Google.com engine. He has Nathan and he was married to a Camp, I think. I was going to print it out but lost everything. Middlesex Co. Ct, methinks. Phoebe
