    1. [CODNEY] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team We are presently setting up email groups at https://groups.io/. If there is interest in migrating this list to groups.io please respond to this message to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [CODNEY] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

    3. Patricia D. Schubert [ballybay@efortress.com] wrote: [Sheryl], I just discovered that Reuben Codney's father was Samuel and I am wondering if there is a connection. I also found a William that was born in 1936 in Luzerne, Warren, NY. I believe that Reuben was older. He apparently died 13 May 1873 in Randolph, Cattaraugus, NY and left a wife and 6 children. Would appreciate any input that you might have. Thank you. Pat Schubert

    1. Samuel Codney, b. abt. 1760; d. aft. 1840 <of Luzerne, Warren, New York, USA>
    2. Mike Slaughter, Midwest Engraving
    3. Here is what I have on my husband's Codneys: First Generation 1. Samuel CODNEY-239 was born about 1760. He died after 1840, of Luzerne, Warren, New York, USA. Samuel was counted in a census(1) in 1800 in , Washington, New York, USA. He was counted in a census(2) in 1810 in , Washington, New York, USA. He was counted in a census(3) in 1820 in Luzerne, Warren, New York, USA. He was counted in a census(4) in 1830 in Luzerne, Warren, New York, USA. He was counted in a census(5) in 1840 in Luzerne, Warren, New York, USA. In the census for the state of NY for 1800, 1810 and 1820, Samuel CODNEY is the only one shown with this surname or any variant spelling. My best guess is that Samuel CODNEY of Washington Co. (1800, 1810), then, Luzerne, Warren Co., NY (1820, 1830, 1840) is the father of both Daniel CODNEY and Samuel CODNEY, Jr. Gideon CODNEY (Madison Co., NY, 1850) and Peter CODNEY (Sullivan Co., 1830) are likely related but Samuel only shows in the census with 2 sons, presumably Daniel and Samuel, and possibly 5 daughters. Also found in the census records are: 1830 census, entire state of NY extracted: Sullivan Co., (Thompson), P. 78: could be CADNEY or CUDNEY Peter CODNEY, males — 1 40-49; females — none 1850 Census, Entire State of NY extracted: Herkimer Co. (See Daniel CODNEY, above) Madison Co., (Lenox), NY, P. 246: Gideon CODNEY, 52, laborer, b. RI, living with a WATKINS family who runs a grocery. Saratoga Co., (Corinth), NY, P. 295: James CODNEY, 14, b. Ireland, living with Charles WASTE family. 1860 Census, New York Co., NY, 789, 22 W NYC Div. 2; family 3854: Matthew CODNEY, age 31, born in Ireland; Bridget CODNEY, 30, born in Ireland; Anna CODNEY, 5, born in NY; Margarett CODNEY, 2, born in NY. 1860 Census, Queensburg, Warren Co., NY, P. 176: Titus CODNEY, 33 or 35, born in NY; Matilda CODNEY, 24, born in NY; George CODNEY, 1, born in NY. 1860 census, Albany Co., NY: Augustus CADNEY, 30, b.
