James Charles Gaal died of natural causes June 19, 2001, at his home in Hotchkiss. He was 91. Mr. Gaal had lived in Hotchkiss since 1968. He retired to Paonia. He was born on Nov. 3 1909 in Krmpah, Slovakia, Hungary, to Anthony and Julia (Kalina) Gaal. He spent his childhood in Hungary and in Chattaroy, W. Va. He married Ruth Hamrick on March 13, 1937.
