Vietnam War veteran, Warren Lee WALLACE, the son of Leonard Keith and Mable Caroline (MILLER) WALLACE, was born on Feb. 14, 1946, in the old hospital on Duke Hill in Hotchkiss. He died on Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at the age of 52, in the Antelope Valley Hospital at Lancaster, Calif. He was a supervisor engineer for Southern California Gas Co. for 27 years in Quartz Hill, Calif. Mr. WALLACE spent his childhood up on the Ragged Mountains, above the North Fork area, and graduated from the Hotchkiss High School with the class of 1964. He also lived at Sunny Side, Utah; Paonia, Somerset, Bell Creek, and on Bone Mesa. During the Vietnam War, Mr. Wallace served his country as an E-5 Minesweeper Electrician in the United States Navy from December of 1965 until November of 1969. He served aboard the U.S.S. Albatross between Vietnam and Sasebo, Japan. Mr. Wallace married Margaret "Margie" Dillon in Bull Head City, Ariz., on Aug. 8, 1996. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3000 of Quartz Hill, Calif.; and a 23-year member of Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807, B.P.O.E. Known as a very generous man and an avid Denver Bronco fan, Mr. Wallace had many loves in his life that he greatly enjoyed that included: Vegetable gardening, flowers, horseback riding, moving cows, golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time up Leroux Creek and on Oak Mesa. Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Wallace's life include his wife, Margaret "Margie" Wallace, of Quartz Hill, Calif.; two daughters: Sarah Elizabeth Wallace and Hannah Rose Wallace, both of Quartz Hill, Calif.; and one stepdaughter, Shannen and husband Jon Gordon, of Charlotte, N.C. Other family survivors include one brother, Norman Wallace and wife Kay, of Crawford; and one sister, Sherry Robley and husband Dave Cotten, of Hotchkiss. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mable Wallace. Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Wallace's life will be officiated by Dennis Richards on Thursday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. from the Hotchkiss Taylor Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Garden of Memories at Crawford, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. of Hotchkiss.
