Surnames: BARLOW COX PATTON Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HY.2ADI/652 Message Board Post: January 6, 1999 Margaret Barlow Cox Patton 101-Year-Old Orchard Rancher April 15, 1897 Jan. 4, 1999 CEDAREDGE Margaret BARLOW COX PATTON, a resident of the Cedaredge area for the last nine and a half years, died on Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert at the age of 101. Margaret Barlow COX was born on April 15, 1897, the daughter of John W. and Sallie White (CAREY) COX, in Norfolk County, Va., where she spent her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood. She continued to pursue her education and graduated in 1920 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Natural Arts from Hollins College in Roanoke, Va. Miss COX taught for one year at the Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Va. She was married on Sept. 1, 1921, in Denver, Colo., to Donald Patton, who preceded her in death in 1955. Mrs. Patton, an orchard rancher, lived in Hotchkiss for 68 years before moving to the Cedaredge area where she remained the last nine and a half years of her life until the time of her death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hotchkiss. Mrs. PATTON loved and enjoyed music and the arts, traveling, swimming, and spending time in Acapulco, Mexico. Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Patton's life include two nephews: Dr. Nat Adamson and wife Ann, of Charlottesville, Va.; Edmond Adamson, of Newport News, Va.; one niece, Yvonne Patton Cottrell, of Martinez, Calif.; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and longtime friends; Marvin and June Taylor, of Cedaredge. Funeral Services in remembrance, to pay respect, and to honor Mrs. Patton's life will be officiated by Pastor Bill Stoddardt on Friday, Jan. 8, at 10:30 a.m. from the Hotchkiss Taylor Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Riverside Cemetery at Hotchkiss, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
