Paonia did indeed have a railroad in the early 1900's. Denver & Rio Grande had passenger service through Delta, Hotchkiss, Paonia, and Somerset. In about the 1940's the railroad traffic faded to the point where passenger service was discontinued and is now just a coal transport. Anyone living in Delta county could have been living in Paonia. Although they had service to Somerset just east of Paonia, somerset by way is in Gunnison County, Somerset was a mining owned town and there would have been no housing available for railroad people. I posted this on Co/Delta rather than reply direct in case this information is of interest to someone else researching.
