James Charles Gaal died of natural causes June 19, 2001, at his home in Hotchkiss. He was 91. Mr. Gaal had lived in Hotchkiss since 1968. He retired to Paonia. He was born on Nov. 3 1909 in Krmpah, Slovakia, Hungary, to Anthony and Julia (Kalina) Gaal. He spent his childhood in Hungary and in Chattaroy, W. Va. He married Ruth Hamrick on March 13, 1937. Lillian T. reger of Fruita died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Family Health West Nursing Home in Fruita. She was 83. She was born Aug. 30, 1917, to Charles and Eva (Decker ) Gettler in Queens, N.Y. she married Joseph Reger on april 8, 1945 in Virginia. Survivors included a son, a daughter and two stepdaughters.

Mildred "Millie" Hickox Warren died at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction on June 13,2001, as a result of a traffic accident. She was 84. She was born in Nahang, S.D., to William Arthur and Katherine Louise Poppleton. She married Loren Warren on Jan 3, 1992 and they resided in Delta. She is survived by her husband two stepsons and two sons.

Ladd R. Griffith died at alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, Calif. on June 1, 2001, of Cancer. He was born Nov. 21, 1930 in Cory to William and Geneva Griffith. He married Jeanne in 1955 and lived in El Cerrito, Calif for 43 years. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Bessie M. Daniel of Paonia died June 18, 2001, at Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta. She was 86. She was born in Hot Springs, Ark., on Oct. 4, 1914, to Oliver and Maude (Whitehead) Hensley. She spent her childhood in Hot Springs. She married Kenneth Daniel in Evanston, Wyo.,on June 30, 1958. She is survived by a son and his wife.

Helen Elizabeth Sneller Bruner, 75, of Arvada died May 24, 2001. She was born Aug. 11, 1925 in Paonia to Paul and Katherine Sneller, who immigrated from Austria. She is survived by her husband and two daughters and a son.

Caritina Torbol, 88, of Eckert died tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was born Oct 5, 1912,in Tantoyuca, Veracruz, Mexico to Esther and Modesta (Nova) Flores. She married John Anthony Torbol in Mexico. She is survived by a son .

Alice Adams, 85, of Wheatridge died June 9, 2001, in wheatridge. Mrs. Adams was born in Hardin, Montana on Sept.16, 1915. She married George E. Adams in 1933; ther were married for 52 years.Survivors include three sons.

Miguel Antonio Abeyta, 86, of Delta died of natural causes June 13, 2001, at Delta County Hospital in Delta. He was born in La Puente, N.M. on March 26, 1915, to Antonio and Josefa(Montano) Abeyta. He is survived by a brother and some sisters.

Lois McCracken died Sunday, June 3,2001, at her home near Olathe. She was 86. She was born to Oscar Warren and Ollie May (McDonald) Pfister on Aug. 15, 1914, in Wilkie Saskatchewan, Canada, where her family moved to establish a homestead. On Aug 12,1933, she married John T. (Ted) McCracken at Talogo, Okla. she moved to Olathe in 1936. She is survived by five sonsand five daughters.

Barbara Plummer, 70, of Delta died Sunday, June 17,2001, at Delta County, Memorial, Hospital, in Delta. She was born Sept.18,1930, in Mesa to Theodore and Eva(Johnson) Robbins. She married Lawrence D. Plummer on Dec.31,1946, in Grand Junction. She is survived by a son,Lawrence (Chip) Plummer of Delta. A Daughter Lenore Plummer of Delta.

Ruth A. Baker, 79, of Delta died Sunday, June 17,2001, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe. She was born April 28, 1922, in Mesa, Arizona, to Ira and Gladys (Johnson)Allen. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Kuster of Delta and Carolyn Fiore of South Carolina.

Gary Walker, 60,of Cedaredge died July 7. Private burial was in Nebraska. Mr. Walker was born in Hastings, NE on July 9, 1940. He was a vocational/technical professor at Metropolitan State College of Denver, an administrator at Front Range Community College, a teacher in Jefferson Public Schools. Survivors include brother Ron of Loveland. Published 19 July 2001 in Rocky Mtn News.

Serendipity: On page 184 of the May-June 1987 issue of "The Genealogical Helper" imagazine is an adorable photo taken in 1912 of two little sisters. Dorothy Vogel (the submitter's mother) is seen pushing her younger sister, Margaret, in a stroller. Dorothy, with her dark hair in ringlets, is all smiles, and her sister is bright-eyed and cute as a button. The girls' father emigrated from Germany in 1881 to Paonia, Colorado, where he made his living raising apples. Per, the submitter, Paonia received its name because Paeonias were easily grown in the mountain climate; somehow, when the state of Colorado incorporated the town name they misspelled it as "Paonia." Dorothy was born in 1909 and died in 1976. Margaret was born in 1912 and was still living circa 1987. The Glenwood Springs, CO submitter, Jerry Hammar, said that he wanted to share the photo.

While I have run across this Frank Cvar a couple of times I have not been able to conect him to my family so far. If you have any information from the old country, maraige, birth, baptism then it would be easier to make a connection. Most of the Cvar's that I have found came over here about the turn of the century. As did my ggrandparents they came from Lipsovich, Slovenia. My ggrandfather was Matija Cvar born in 1858, died in 1927.

Hello, I'm sorry to say I have no info on your family in Delta, but, your own name is one I'm interested in. I'm related to Cvars by my great aunt marrying a Frank Cvar. My aunt and he are buried in Roselawn cemetery in Pueblo, Colorado, both died young. My great aunt's name was Francis (Vider) Cvar, died in 1910, maybe from T.B. or pneumonia. If related, you may have heard Frank Cvar died young, in Dec of 1913. He had been to a friends bar, decided to go home, change into a Santa Clause suit, came back, bar owner didn't know who he was and thought he was going to be robbed again (had been robbed the week before I think) and shot Cvar in the heart. Do you know any Cvars in Pueblo? This couple did have a son named Frank who married an Aggie, who had a Franklin. I have came across quite a few Frank Cvars. None of them seem to know each other, except when it is there father or son. I thought I would email you, as you are interested in Colorado Cvars.
