Surnames: La Combe, Lewis, Medina, Hoagland Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hY.2ADE/142 Message Board Post: I am seeking any help in going beyond my grandparents in researching my family tree. My maternal grandfather (Nicholas Medina) was born in 1904 between Ft. Garland and Blanca on a ranch near the Great Sand Dunes, and my grandmother (Delores Hoagland) was born in 1907 in Fort Garland. The Hoagland family owned and operated a store in Fort Garland for many years and Mr. Medina worked for the state employment agency in Alamosa for many years before settling and retiring in Walsenburg. Both are buried in Fort Garland. Children of Mr. & Mrs. Medina are Ardith Cortez (Craig, CO), Bill Hoagland (Fort Garland), and Janice La Combe (Millington, TN). My mother, Janice was born in Pueblo, CO in 1935. My paternal grandfather (Frank La Combe) and grandmother (Sarah Lewis) were both born in San Luis around 1890. Mr. La Combe was a farmer and owned the Costilla County Free Press newspaper. I understand that Mrs. La Combe was adopted at an early age by a family named Sanchez. Both died in 1960 and are buried in San Luis. Children of Mr. & Mrs. La Combe include: Marie (deceased), Alphonso (New Mexico, lived in San Luis for 60 years), Ida Vigil (Green River, Wyoming) Bertano (deceased), William/Billy/Guillermo (deceased), and Frank (Denver and maintains a residence in San Luis). My father William left Costilla County around 1955 and moved to Denver for a short while and ended up in Tennessee. He was buried in Millington, TN in 1999. Any information anyone can provide in this beginning endeavor would be greatly appreciated.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hY.2ADE/139.1 Message Board Post: Only info in Sangre de Cristo marriages, San Luis, CO, is the wedding of Benjamin Meder, son of John and Mary Meder, to Federica Atencio, daughter of Maximiliano Atencio and Candelarita Medina, on 9/10/1914. P. 60, vol. 2. No children listed for the couple. However, Benjamin is listed when he was baptized on 8/21/1887 (volume 2, p. 50) godparents Pat Breen and Mary Breen; There are two other baptisms, Henry James Meader, baptized 11/15/1885, son of Henry James Meader and Mary Canjora, godparents John Heran and Maria Mullen, Vol. 2, p. 17. and Josefina Meder, daughter of James Henry Meder and Mary Canjora baptized on 1/23/1884. Her godparents were Julian Carson and Pascuala Tobin, Volume l, p. 63. The name is spelled Meader fdor Benjamin and Henry James and Meder for Josefina.. Although the baptism for Benjamin states the parents as James and Mary, I think they are the same family. Where did this family go? Did they change religion?
