I applaud the work you have done researching our family, and it gives me great pleasure to read your accounts. I would like to clarify some information about my Grandfather, Edward Mestaz. There are pictures where he and I are in the same photo, and since I was born in 1951 and actually have some recollection of him and the wonderful house behind Edison Junior High School, it is inaccurate to declare his passing in 1947. My father, the youngest son (Thomas Cordero Mestaz) is still alive, and hitting his mid-80s. My siblings and I heard many tales, some of which you have validated here, but if you get a chance, you might want to chat with him. Again, thanks for all the effort. My mother (Mary) was one of the 7 surviving children that resulted from the marriage between Ben and Frieda. Growing up my parents lived in Ft Garland and I often stayed or visited at my grandparents home where I was treated to many stories of life in the 'Valley' as well as some of the history relating to Henry Meder. I see from the posts here that Henry is referred to as John. The name 'John' was a nickname shortened from "Johnny Reb". My mother had a fondness for Henry and related to him given both my mother's joy of hunting and fishing as well as Henry's love of the outdoors and his vocation of teamster and hunter for the Cavalry. You may contact me at TER1040@aol.com and I can expand further on the family history as I have it in documented form or in verbal historical form; which may or may not be as factually based as it should be however the stories I heard were certainly entertaining. As Grave Registration Officer for the Dept. of CO & WY, I have visited every county and photographed all of the military and civilian markers of those who served during the Civil War and later moved to Colorado. I know that I will not be able to find all of them. Many had no history or wanted to forget that war. There is one woman I have found, she is buried in Otis County. Her name is; Cyrena Vorce / Civil War Nurse. This request goes out to anyone who might know of the last living CW soldier in their county. It would be greatly appreciated if the information and any history on this soldier can be sent to me. If you have any questions or concerns contact me. Thank you for your time and considerations. I've been doing Ancestry and family trees for almost 20 years now across the USA. I've done thousands of family trees for thousands of families and it has been a blast! Over the last 6 months I've put together the how to guide I wrote on finding your ancestors, breaking down those walls and finding the answers you have had a hard time looking for. You can get a free copy if you would like. In addition to the guide I wrote, I also made a point and click program that works on any computer, PC or Apple, Windows. Gives you point and click access to Census, family trees, cemeteries, Revolutionary War, civil war, WW1, WW2 and Korean War, old land deeds, obituaries old state maps, county formations, Slave index, Indian rolls and hundreds of thousands of searchable newspaper archive from the mid 1850s to today just to name a few along with thousands of Facebook groups and social media groups to network with others, finding family in other states and trading old ancestor pictures! Also threw in my guide to Native American heritage ancestry. Can be difficult figuring out which tribe your ancestors came from. From the thousands of family trees I have done, quite a few of them had roots that went into tribes all across the USA, so I have quite a bit of experience in the area of native American ancestry. All family trees spread out in many states, So I have included every state in my program. Every State and Every county in the USA. So, whether your just getting started in ancestry or if you have been doing it for years, my Ancestor Hunt program will help you out and help you break down the walls. I've also included a database of people across the USA in each state that offer free lookups, so if you can't get to a certain state or if it's too far away just contact these people and they will do their best to help you out, Also included is easy family tree program that is by far the easiest program to create your actual family tree. You can create your tree, Save it, print it out or publish it online, all from my program. If you would like a free copy just send me a e-mail ancestorhunt1958@gmail.com There is a $6.00 shipping handling fee, to cover the shipping and creation of the CD-ROM. As I said before it works on any platform computer. PC, Apple, any version of windows etc. Happy Hunting!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Faustin and Marie are my great great great grandparents. Their son Antonio had a son Faustin who had a daughter Delia Rose Medina, who is my grandmother. She told stories of driving to CA from CO so the family could have a better life. Faustin worked many years at the Goodyear tire plant in Los Angeles. As a young child I remember him telling us "caballero" stories in spanish. HA HA, I don't know spanish but I was fascinated. My mom, aunt and I are planning a trip to CO next year to explore our roots. Are you in the CO area? If so, would love to meet you.
