Surnames: Cochran, Sutherland, Hemphill, Ward, Gunn, Nichols Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IMJ.2ACEB/1762.2 Message Board Post: I am looking for the parents, sibblings and descendants of George & Mary COCHRAN. If census records are correct, George W. Cochran was born between 1770 and 1780 in Virginia. (He also was described by his descendants as a "native of the Old Dominion, Virginia, and of German descent.") George married Mary Sutherland (her info is below) before 1799 (his age ~19/29), probably in Virginia. When their son was born in 1807 they were living in Berkeley Co. (formed in 1772 from Frederick County), West Virginia. (his age ~27/37) He reportedly served in the war of 1812-1815 (age about ~32/42), but we have located no records confirming this. When their daughter was born in 1812 they lived in Pickaway County, Ohio. He has been described as being one of the "pioneers" of Pickaway Co., OH. 1830 Census: Jackson, Pickaway County, Ohio. He probably died before 1840 as in the 1840 census his wife appears to be living with their son (younger George) in Fulton County, Illinois. Children: Sarah Cochran (2 Oct. 1799-8 Nov. 1865) married James Hemphill George Cochran (7 Aug. 1807-12 Apr. 1887) married first Hannah Ward and second Susan Gunn Nancy Cochran (10 Feb. 1812-20 Sept. 1896) married William Franklin Ward Nathan Cochran (abt 1815-) married Eliza Ann Nichols Others? Mary Sutherland's information: -Birth 20 Apr. 1782 in Virginia -Census 1840 in Fulton County, Illinois. She lived with her son George. (her age 58) -Census 17 Aug. 1850, Linn County, Iowa. She lived with her daughter Nancy (Mrs. William Ward), Mary was listed as 68 years old, Female, born in Virginia. -Death 15 Jun. 1856 in Linn County, Iowa (her age 74) -Burial in Lafayette Cemetery, Otter Creek Township, Linn Co., IA. On the grave stone is her son-in-law's name on the front (James Hemphill), one side his wife, her daughter (Sarah) and on the other Mary. I would appreciate any information about this family. Especially any census data, birth/death/burial records. I've never seen the 1830 census records, just found notes about them. George's age & place of birth are based on those notes . Thank You.
