    1. Alexander COCHRAN, Mifflin County, Pennsyvania, late 18th century
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: COCHRAN, SHERLOCK Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IMJ.2ACEB/2304 Message Board Post: Henry SHERLOCK lived with his son, Abraham, in Mifflin County in 1810 and wrote his will there in 1812. The will was probated in Mifflin County in 1813. He mentioned his son, Abraham (1785-1842) and Abraham's children, his daughter Betty and his sister Peggy. Henry SHERLOCK married Agness (Nancy) COCHRAN, daughter of Alexander and Agness COCHRAN. Alexander was born about 1733 in Ireland, immigrated to North America in about 1752, married about 1762, probably in Kentucky, then moved to Mifflin County in about 1767. Alexander died in the Fall of 1807 at his home in Armagh Township. He served in the 8th Battalion of the Cumberland County Militia, 1780-1782. Alexander and Agness COCHRAN had eleven children: John, David, Jane, Sarah, Rachel, Martha, James, Agness, Joseph, Andrew, and Robert. My descent is as follows: Alexander Cochran = Agness (Nancy) ? Agness (Nancy) Cochran = Henry Sherlock Abraham Sherlock = Nancy M. ? who might have been his second wife and not the mother of his children. Some relatives claim her maiden name was also Nancy Cochran, but no proof has been found. Abraham moved to Perry County, Ohio during the 1810s. Margaret Sherlock = Benjamin Harden of Hopewell Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. They lived in Hocking County, Ohio. Henry Harden = Sarah Jane Van Valkenburgh Joseph Harden = Sarah Isabella Robinson Will Harden = Ethel May Winchell Iola Harden = Warren J. Welch (my parents) I will be happy to share information and work with other researchers on the COCHRAN and SHERLOCK families in Mifflin County. Richard Welch Farmington, New Mexico

He had a sister, Daisy M. Cochran who married Lamont Gray. I witnessed Mr. Gray's death when he went to his barn one night and set it on fire. His brothers were Francis Edward, Andrew (Jack) and Marshall. He also had a half brother Morris. Around 1900 Ed and Marshall went up river on the Cumberland to Canton and Golden Pond. They came home and told the family that they were spelling their name wrong. That in Canton and Golden Pond they spelled it Cothran. They, then changed to Cothran except Bartley. He said I was born a Cochran and I'll die a Cochran. Their father, Benjamin Thomas was a brother or half brother to my Grandfather, John Cochran. My father was James Everill Cochran and his brother Newman spelled it Cothran.
