Can you tell me about your line. Where did it originate from? Are there any Cherokees in your line? Hiram was born in 1848 in AR and says his mother and father were born in IL. I have been looking for over 10 years and cannot find his parents or documentation of any families he is connected to.

The California birth index showed two sons, Ronald Clive Skinner and Lloyd Morris Skinner. The mother's maiden name was listed as Cochran. From letters Clive wrote to my father, both sons met tragic deaths; however, I can find no record of their deaths in the social security death index. I realize that they if no one received a benefit from Social Security as a result of their deaths that they might not be listed. I am attaching a photo which I believe to be of Clive Skinner and his wife. If anyone has any information or recognizes the couple in the photo, please email me at lynda_turner72_yahoo.com. Thank you.

I can't see an immediate connection, but I looked a little bit for your family. They're in the 1900 Cherokee AL Census. MJ is widowed HOH. Means David died between 1880 & 1900. That's a wide span, but it's going to likely be in Cherokee AL. David's alive in 1880 Census in Cherokee Co, AL, I found them in the 1870 Census in Calhoun Co, AL. My guess is that they married between 1860 & 1866. Possibly right before the Civil War, or just afterwards [only assumed because of the timing of the marriage]. Unless you have proof they married in Georgia, I wouldn't rule out other states -- a lot of people went to live with extended family as the War tore up their homes. If he was from SC, it's possible he was a soldier and they met during one of the campaigns. Hope this gives you some ideas ...

Hey there, My grandmother is a Cochrane and I am researching the family tree and history. I would love all the help I can get!! I've unearthed some interesting things (for her anyway) that have proved family stories aren't always correct. I also have information to share if anyone wants it. From the furtherest I can go back: John Cochran married Agnes Boyd on 1 Dec, 1755 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. They had the following children (all Cochran's), all born in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland: John (b: 22 Dec 1756) Margaret (b: 30 Jul 1758) Robert (b: 11 May 1760) James (b: 29 Dec 1761) Elizabeth (b: 14 Nov 1763) William (b: 18 Oct, 1766) George (b: 9 Jun 1768) Joseph (b: 26 Apr 1770) Benjamin (b: 9 Nov 1771 died) Benjamin (b Jun 1773) David (b: 19 Apr 1775) Charles (b: 11 Jan 1777) Alexander (B: Jul 1778) Joseph married Margaret Young and they had the following children (please see different spellings for last name), all born in Irvine: Marion Cochren (b: 20 Dec 1801) Agnes Cochran (b: 9 Oct 1803) John Cocheran (b: 28 Dec 1805) George Cochrane (b: 13 Nov 1808) Alexander Cochran (b: 21 Oct 1810) Joseph Cochran (b: 26 Dec 1812) James Cochran (b: 26 Mar 1815) Margaret Cochrane (b: 15 May 1817) George Cochrane married Mary Wallace on 25 Dec 1829 in Dundonald, Strathclyde, Scotland. They had the following children: William Cochrane (b: 31 Oct 1832 in Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland) Mary Cochrane James Cochrane Robert Cochrane (b: 11 Oct 1830 in Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland) William Cochrane married Isabella Lamberton in Kilmarnock on 4 Jul 1851. They then immigrated to New Zealand. This is my direct line (no sense in typing more of it!). Any connections? Please reply!! Regards, Fallon King Greymouth, NZ

The following is the obituary of Eliza Ann Cochran. I am searching for her four sisters and one brother, but especially the sisters. They must have lived in Chautauqua Co., NY at one time, since Eliza Ann is listed being baptized at the Presbysterian Church in Westfield, NY in 1827 and joining the church in the 1830's. This is her obituary from the Gary Interstate (Newspaper) at Gary, SD on Sept 7, 1888. Mrs. Eliza Cochrane died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oliver, in the fillage last Monday morning September 3rd, after being confined to her bed for twenty months. She was born in Westfield, Chautauqua County, New York, September 17th 1824, and hence with ??????? at the time of her death. She was converted and joned the M.E. Church at twelve years of age, and has been connected with the church ever since. During her long sickness, she exhitbited unwavering patience and trust in Him whome she believed, and died rejoicing in the same faith. She was buried on Tuesday, Sept., 4th, her paster, Rev. F.H. Wheeler conducting the funeral services at the M.E. church. She leaves two children, a son and a daughter, four sisters and one brother. After so much suffering and patient waiting for the final summons, death was to her a blessed change, and those who mourn her loss cannot wish her again upon that bed of pain. End of obituary. Eliza was my gg-grandmother and is buried in the Grandview Cemetery at Gary, South Dakota. If anyone recogizers her and know who her sisters where or who they married, please contact me at _jimmynj@aol.com_ (mailto:jimmynj@aol.com) . Thank you Jim Cochrane

In my great-grandmothers Bible she has Flora marring a Leslie Cochran. I have found several things with a Leslie D. and Flora listed together (WW1 draft registration Bexar County TX, the Bexar County 1920 Census as COCKRAN and them having a son named Douglas.) In the 1930 Census for Bexar County Leslie is listed with a new wife named Mary, but Douglas is still living with his father along with several other children from his second marriage. I need to know if this would be the right family and if so does anyone have any information that they are willing to share on Leslie, Flora, and Douglas. Flora is my great-grandmother's sister Fannie Bell FRANCE OAKS. Thank you in advance for any information.
