This John Cochran was living in Marshall County, TN in the mid 1800's. He was born in 1807, probably in one of the Carolinas. His daughter, Sara Amanda, was my great-grandmother. It seems that the Cochran brothers helped to map and develop Marshall County. One of the prominent Cochran's was Levi. That is about all I can tell you. They did pronounce the name Cohorn. The first Cohorn in Ky that I have is Hugh Cohorn who lived in Franklin Co which was part of Bourbon Co in 1792. Hugh's given name was John Richard Cohorn and he was allegedly born in IL in 1804. He was supposedly part Indian. Do you have any more information on John Cochran's children and grandchildren and their descendants?

As you probably know, many Cochrans are buried in the Schmidt Cemetery in Washington Township, Blackford County, IN. Well, Adelle Beck Cochran (Roderick's daughter-in-law and my wife's grandmother) visited this cemetery in 1979 while she was visiting relatives of her husband. She took several pictures of some of the Cochran markers and I have some of these pictures. The pictures are not extremely clear, but Roderick's marker clearly shows "Rodrick" (no 'e')! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to make this correction. Gary

(I already have this info, with some variation) I have the 1850 censes too. However, the stage I’m at in my research is the process of further documenting things through legal records. Family members can supply a lot of useful info, but one should only use this info for a sense of direction in searching for legal documentation. Without documentation, genealogy is just a bunch of words on paper and it’s easy to pick up erroneous information, which will throw one off on additional research. For example, I noticed you have the name Roderick in your files. I have found the name spelled Rodrick (without the “e”) in a couple official documents. Which is correct?? Or, was it spelled both ways, maybe by mistake or maybe he changed it over the years. Or, maybe family members just think it was spelled that way. Usually, the spelling of a first name is no big dea! l, but very often it could be, one just never knows. Thanks for responding. DelC
