I am sure we will all spend this week recuperating from the holidays, and if we are lucky still have some precious out of town guests to visit with. Hopefully we have added some new members who perhaps received a family tree program of some sort. Welcome to all. As you learn the ins and outs of research, I just want to emphasize one thing .... document everything you find. There are plenty of look up volunteers who will gladly look up obituaries, marriages etc wherever you need them to. Most of them charge only for their gas and cost of copies. But remember to mention that you want for instance an obituary for your Aunt Jane Smith who died on 3 March 1950 AND remember to mention that you absolutely need the name and date of the newspaper the obituary came from. You may not realize the importance of that but it is very important later on as you put together your family history with documentation. One note for look up volunteers - it is easy to forget that important date and name of newspaper. Please try to remember to get it.
