He was born June 12, 1931, in Bainbridge, Ohio, to Paul Ward McCoppin and Marjorie Ingle. He was raised in Bainbridge and graduated from high school there. He joined the U.S. Air Force after finishing high school. He married Joan Simon on Feb. 2, l952, in Bainbridge. After returning from his time in the service, he took a job in the insurance industry in Ohio. The family moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., in l957. He worked for a finance company until l967, when he moved to Mitchell, S.D. He worked in banking as a loan officer from l967 to l974. He looked for a career change and to leave the world of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., when he joined the carnival. He went to work for Wright’s Amusements, where he worked until his retirement in 2001. He started as the office manager for the company and was the concessionaire at the time of his retirement. The McCoppins moved to Longmont in l974, where they resided until 2001, when they moved to Loveland. He was a member of the Showman’s League and the Outdoor Amusement Business Association, and the American Legion Post No. 32, Longmont. He is survived by his wife of Loveland; four sons, John McCoppin and wife Sue and Tom McCoppin and wife Lorraine, all of Longmont, Scott McCoppin, of Loveland, and Neal McCoppin and wife Nancy, of Palm Coast, Fla., one daughter, Dianne Ewing and husband Jerry of Loveland: a sister Joyce Wagner and husband Layson of Bainbridge, Ohio, and 5 grandchildren. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 8 tonight at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman St. in Longmont. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with Chaplain David Kenny officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont.
