On ancestry.com, I found Wharton K. Gray in the Roster of Men and Women Who Served in The World War From Colorado 1917-1918, Denver County. I suppose it's possible that Wharton only enlisted in Denver County, but unless you have him placed in Boulder I don't know why we'd find leads here. Given Name: Wharton K. Surname: Gray Rank: Sergeant Branch: Infantry Place: Denver Since the Social Security Death Index lists Wharton's mother's maiden name as Kinsey, you're probably right about the link to Illinois. There are a number of Wharton Grays out there, but probably not so many Wharton Kinseys.
