Upon her death, her vital organs were donated and received by individuals who were on a waiting list through the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Her life will continue to touch others. She was born June 8, 1942, in Fort Collins, to Reuben and Hannah (Miller) Walter. She grew up and attended school in Loveland and graduated from Loveland High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Norman Bernhardt, on July 8, 2000, in Fort Collins. She worked as a bartender “social worker” for many years. She worked at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Moose Lodge and was a member at each of these places. She enjoyed fishing, camping, sewing and gambling in Black Hawk and in cities in Nevada and South Dakota. When she was out of high school, she taught Sunday school classes at First Congregational Church in Loveland. She is survived by her husband, Norman Bernhardt; one son, Tim Hart of Erie; three daughters, Jamie Ochs and fiancé James Buick of Loveland, Terry Carpenter and husband Jon Tschirley of Fort Collins, and Sandra Henderson and husband Danny of Berthoud; two brothers, Chris Walter and wife Marilyn of Loveland, and Larry Allen and wife Linda of Fort Collins; three sisters: Joyce Allen of Fort Collins, Sue Walter of Loveland, and Nadine Burkhart and husband Gary of Fort Collins; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Michael Shonn Hart. Cremation will be conducted. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. A reception will be held at the American Legion immediately following the memorial service.
