Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XY.2ADE/451.1 Message Board Post: I have a copy of a wonderful book of newspaper extracts that Mary McRoberts did in 1991. It covers the period 1859-1900 : "Boulder County, Colorado / Deaths and the Insane / 1859-1900 / Newspaper Abstracts / Mary McRoberts / Boulder, Co / July 1991" I found a number of references to Franklins but none with your names. There was a "G.H." , a "H.G." , a "Parmelia" and a "Robert F." ; also a "Robert" (same as Robt F ?) and a "Louie" (female, possibly [sic]). However the following caught my eye as a possible clue (note born c.1827 and from Arkansas - a brother ?) I trust her extracts but beware of my typing. Hope I'm accurate. "Franklin, Benjamin F. shot 21 June and d 22 June 1867 by Junius Berkley at St Vrain. Berkley had rented a ranch and house from Franklin who then boarded with Berkley for a time. Difficulty between them arose and Franklin was notified to leave. Franklin came at Berkley with a chair, so Berkley shot him. Franklin kept coming and Berkley shot again. Before he died, Franklin wrote and signed a statement of fact. About age 40. Hus of Parmelia Franklin. Formerly of Arkansas. Here since 1959. (RMND 24 June 1867:4; see estate files) [RMND= Rocky Mountain News Daily. The reference to see estate files is I believe to the book "Boulder County, Colorado Estate Files 1850-1910" by Lois Wescott.] I don't have access to the estate files book but I have found the members of the societies in Boulder County to be most friendly and helpful. A supposition from the other articles is that "H.G." was a son of Benjamin and that Parmelia remarried some one named VanDusen and had a son "Bert". Bert VanDusen and H.G. are called half-brothers. Any of those names pop up ? Hope this points you in the right direction David
