Have copies of some wonderful books of newspaper extracts that Mary McRoberts did in 1991. They cover the period 1859-1900 and one is : "Boulder County, Colorado / Marriages, Anniversaries, Divorces, Births and Birthdays / 1859-1900 / Newspaper Abstracts / Mary McRoberts / Boulder, Co / July 1991" And the other is : "Boulder County, Colorado / Deaths and the Insane / 1859-1900 / Newspaper Abstracts / Mary McRoberts / Boulder, Co / July 1991" I trust her extracts but beware of my typing. Hope I'm accurate. Found the following entries - 1. Marriages - "Orahood, William M. m 21 Mar 1869 Emily Albina Godding at home of bride's father in Burlington by Rev. Peterson." 2. Marriages - "Orahood, William M. m 26 Apr 1874 Estella M. Austin in Boulder by Rev. W.F. Warren." 3. Obits - "Orahood, William 'Billy' d. 28 Nov 1874 at home of Mr. Rhoades near Sunshine after being thrown from wagon. On way to Sunshine, about 3 miles up. One of the proprietors of Orahood & Gilbert's Boulder & Sunshine Express Line. Was age 29 on 30 Apr 1874. B near Columbus, OH. To Colorado from Iowa im 1862. Funeral 30 Nov at M.E. Church with Rev. Anderson of Presbyterian Church. He has been married 7 months to Estella A. (Austin) Orahood, niece of Capt. Austin of Boulder. Present at funeral were his mother, wife, bro Harper M. Orahood of Central City, sis Mrs. Robert Blair of Denver, and another unmarried sis. Bur Boulder. (cn 4 Dec 1874:2)" [CN is Boulder County News - remember this is an abstract ; you may want to send off for a photocopy and see if there is anything more]. 4. "Orahood, Frank H. drowned last week in Tascher's Pond above Central City. Son of Harper M. Orahood of Boulder." Those are the only Orahood entries I could find , which surprised me. Not all papers from the period survive. Or it could be that events took place in Gilpin county (Central City) or Denver county (Denver). 5. Obits - "Austin, Capt. Ira d. 9 Nov 1893 at home in Highland Lawn of kidney trouble. Lived on south side of the creek. Born 30 May 1807 Bristol, Ontario Co, NY. Moved to Illinois in 1838 and helped build the Illinois and Michigan Canal. To Plscerville, CA over land with 13 wagons and 42 men in 1848. Returned to Illinois in 1850 after making a fortune in California. To Gilpin Co, Colorado 1860 and to Boulder in 1870. In 1860 he discovered coal at Erie and bought 1400 acres of land there. Later sold 800 of those acres to the railroad. 'Man of strong mindand force of character.' 'Of spotless character, of sterling worth, of honor and strictest honesty.' Had a quiet nature. Leaves many relatives & friends. Funeral to be 11 Nov at home with Rev. George Wallace and Rev. Chase. Bur Boulder cem.
