Hi all, Just finished putting a report together and I was reminded of something that I did that could have been a big mistake. Hope you'll all allow me to share this anecdote. My gg-grandfather (David) and ggg-grandfather (Thomas) Carlton died within 6 months of each other. When David died only one of his six daughters had married and only 3 of an eventual 21 grandchildren had been born. When I started my research many years ago not one of those grandchildren that I was in touch with remembered a father and son. Thomas and David, and their accomplishments and attributes, had been blurred into one "Grandpa" Carlton. Several years ago I was visiting my brother and his family. We sat on the couch watching some W.W.II movie while the 3 nephews (ages 3, 10 & 11) played on the floor. My brother and I were talking about "Granddad" Knowles being a Navy pilot in W.W.II. Without noticing we shifted over to talking about "Granddad" Knowles being in the Army in W.W.I. We knew exactly which "Granddad" we were talking about - Dad who had become "Granddad" or our own "Granddad". But it dawned on me that the boys, half heartedly listening to us, had probably conjured an image of the only "Granddad" Knowles they knew, going to W.W.I in the Army and then W.W.II in the Navy. I was afraid the next time they saw him they'd say "How old are you !?!?" Regards, David

Is their a genealogical society in the area that might do lookups in newspapers, if there was one at that time?
Thanks to everyone who offered leads in looking up the obituary for Sarah Hansborough. I really appreciate the help. Leah
Hello, Would it be possible for someone to lookup an obituary for me. I have two references and an abstract, but would dearly love to have the full text from either newspaper. If you can give me directions about where I might access the newspapers listed (below) that would be just as helpful. The information I have is: "Hansbrough, Sarah A. d 1 Oct 1889 San Francisco, CA. Age 67. Her husband George was with her. Mother of Sheriff O.C. Hansbrough of Boulder. Formerly of Boulder. Had been invalid for years. (Boulder News 10 Oct 1889:4; Boulder County Herald Weekly 9 Oct 1889:5)" Thanks for any assistance you can offer. Regards, Leah
While I know this is not of direct genealogical value, it is historical, so I thought I would invite any of you who are in the Mead area (About 40 miles north of Denver just off of I-25 and 7 miles northeast of Longmont) to come to our 1st Annual High on Highlandlake - Hey Day fundraiser for the Historic Highlandlake Church building. The Event will be this Sat. at Highlandlake on Weld County 5 between 24 3/4 and 36 one mile west of Mead, and will include a pancake breakfast, hot-air balloon rides, miniature live-steam train rides, fishing and paddleboat contests, a poker run (Christian style), three live bands, lots of food, and sales items. All proceeds are benefiting the Highlandlake church building, the only historic registered site in the Mead area. The building, built in 1896 and which has not had a congregation since 1916, and has been used since that time as a local community center, took a direct hit with the March snowstorm and is in imminent danger of falling down unless we can raise enough funds to save the building. I have written and received two grants from the State Historical Society to have the structure assessed and to stabilize the building, but we need to apply for another $200,000.00 grant to finish the work of repairing and restoring the building. Of that $200,000, we will have to contribute a $50,000 cash match in order to receive the rest of the funds. Of that amount, we still need to raise about $35,000.00. The fundraiser, we hope will help us toward that goal. For more information, see our official website: http://www.hollyhockfarms.com/hlkchurch Pauli - Boulder & Weld Counties.

Believe she and her mother Sarah Isabella (Birkett) McDonald owned and ran a market store in the Boulder County area. It may have started as the McDonald Grocery Company (c.1933) and evolved (or expanded) into the McDonald Fruit Market and may have been called the Save-More-Market by 1955. I think Sarah Isabella (Birkett) McDonald is the daughter of Robert & Sarah Isabella (Carlton) Birkett. Looking forward to exchanging information, David

I am positive I have found an entry for an ancestor. Background - Jane (Trimble) Carlton was the wife of David Carlton. She emigrated to Louisville in 1881 ; and was widowed in 1892. Lived the rest of her life there. On the Ellis Island site I found an entry for a "Jane Carlton", arrived in New York 31 August 1904 on board the "Majestic" from Liverpool. She is listed as "Mrs. Jane Carlton, age 55 [correct], widow, England [correct - wasn't naturalized until 1913], "Destination" "home" to Louisville, Boulder County, Colorado. She is listed as an "Agent." Any thoughts on what she was doing? David
